On June 19, SAIC-GM Buick officially launched the new Buick E5. The new car is available in three models: the 620KM Premium Edition, 545KM Smart Edition, and 515KM Starter Edition, priced at 149,900 yuan, 159,900 yuan, and 169,900 yuan, respectively.

The Buick E5 is positioned as a mid-to-large electric SUV, and it was first launched in April 2023. It is Buick’s first fully electric vehicle built on the Ultium electric platform, featuring Buick’s latest logo and the brand’s new family design language. The price range for the initial model was 169,900 yuan to 279,900 yuan. This new model can be considered a mid-cycle facelift, mainly focused on exterior upgrades. The front of the new Buick E5 removes the old model’s faux traditional grille design and adopts the PURE Design language. The new design eliminates the large trapezoidal embossed mask and fang-style trim, while maintaining the split-headlamp design, giving the vehicle a more minimalist look. The high-gloss black trim at the bottom, combined with the white body, highlights the contrast of the color scheme, making the car look more dynamic and sporty. The new Buick E5 is available in three colors: gray, black, and white.
There are no major changes in the side and rear design of the car, with subtle adjustments made to the aluminum alloy wheel rims, which continue to feature a polished finish. The car’s body retains its full and voluminous shape, with body-colored wheel arches, a small amount of chrome accents, and black window trim enhancing the vehicle’s overall texture and sporty feel. The dimensions remain unchanged, measuring 4892mm in length, 1905mm in width, and 1684mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2954mm.
On the interior, the new car offers a “deep ink” interior color option, and compared to the previous model, it features white stitching and white piping on the seats and door panels. The overall interior design remains similar to the previous model, but the 30-inch integrated curved 6K screen and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip are now standard across all trims. The car uses hidden air-conditioning vents and simplifies physical buttons, though it still retains the air-conditioning control buttons.
Comparing the three variants of the new Buick E5, the primary differences lie in battery capacity and driving range. The entry-level 515KM Starter Edition has fewer features compared to the mid-range 545KM Smart Edition, such as the removal of electric folding/locking side mirrors, auto-folding/reverse tilt mirrors, memory functions, rear privacy glass, electric tailgate, heated steering wheel, leather seats, 6-way electric adjustment for the front passenger seat, memory function for the driver seat, and front seat heating. The top-of-the-line 620KM Premium Edition includes exclusive features such as a 14-speaker Bose audio system, eco-friendly leather seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of power, the new Buick E5 is equipped with the Ultium 2.0 multi-drive platform, featuring a single-motor pure electric system with a maximum power output of 180 kW (245 horsepower) and a peak torque of 330 Nm. The car is powered by lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, available in 65 kWh, 68.4 kWh, and 76.8 kWh capacities. The CLTC range for the three variants is 515 km, 545 km, and 620 km, respectively. In DC fast charging mode, the car can charge from 30% to 80% in as little as 19 minutes, and in AC slow charging mode, the charging time is as short as 10.3 hours.
As a mid-to-large pure electric SUV, the Buick E5 is priced similarly to models like the Leap Motor C16 (starting at 151,800 yuan), the Chery Exeed Xingyue ET (starting at 172,800 yuan), and the Dongfeng Eπ008 (starting at 178,600 yuan). According to data, from January to May 2025, the Leap Motor C16 sold 24,178 units, the Dongfeng Eπ008 sold 11,444 units, while the Buick E5 sold 5,017 units. In terms of sales, the Buick E5 has significant room for growth in the market. The newly launched Buick E5 focuses on enhancing areas of consumer interest, particularly in the intelligent cabin sector, and improves the riding experience to better meet user needs. With these improvements and competitive pricing, it is hoped that the new model will receive greater attention and recognition from consumers.
