According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), in August 2025, the retail sales of domestic narrow-passenger vehicles reached 2.019 million units, a year-on-year increase of 5.9% and a month-on-month increase of 9.5%. Among them, sedan sales were 904,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 2.3% and a month-on-month increase of 7.4%.

Looking specifically at the mid-size and full-size car market, the “Automotive Industry Focus” statistics show that in the August sales top 15 list for mid-size and full-size sedans, five models exceeded 10,000 units in sales, namely the Xiaomi SU7, Audi A6L, Fengyun A9L, Galaxy Xingyao 8, and Nissan N7. In comparison, only three models—Xiaomi SU7, Audi A6L, and Galaxy Xingyao 8—exceeded 10,000 units in July.
In August, Xiaomi SU7 continued to dominate the mid-size and full-size sedan sales with 19,848 units, marking its 8th consecutive month at the top. By the end of August this year, the cumulative sales of Xiaomi SU7 had reached 199,950 units, making it the highest-selling mid-size car of the year. Since its launch, Xiaomi SU7’s sales have continued to rise, solidifying its position at the top of the mid-size sedan market, indicating strong consumer recognition.
From the BBA lineup, Audi’s A6L ranked second with 12,941 units sold in August. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series from Beijing Benz and Brilliance BMW sold 8,800 units and 7,989 units in August, ranking 6th and 7th, respectively. By the end of August, the cumulative sales of Audi A6L, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and BMW 5 Series were 108,045 units, 82,392 units, and 76,881 units, respectively.
Ranked third was the Fengyun A9L from Chery’s Fengyun brand, with 10,243 units sold in August. The Fengyun A9L, launched on July 8, is available in four variants and is priced between 149,900 and 207,900 RMB. Built on the new E0X platform, the A9L is positioned as a mid-to-large sedan, offering a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a CLTC electric range of 230 km. Since its launch, the A9L has sold a cumulative 14,573 units, a solid performance for a new model.
Also making it into the top five were the Galaxy Xingyao 8 and Nissan N7. Both are newly launched models in 2025, with August sales of 10,152 and 10,148 units, respectively. The Xingyao 8, launched on May 9, comes in seven variants and is priced between 125,800 and 165,800 RMB. It is equipped with the Raytheon electric hybrid power system and a comprehensive driving assistance system. Since its launch, as of the end of August, the Xingyao 8 has sold 40,412 units.
The Nissan N7, launched on April 27, comes in five variants and is priced between 119,900 and 149,900 RMB. It is the first model based on Dongfeng Nissan’s fully self-developed Tianyan architecture and is designed to meet the needs of mainstream family users. As of the end of August, the N7’s cumulative sales were 26,491 units, becoming a new growth driver for Dongfeng Nissan.
BYD’s Han sold 7,758 units in August, ranking 8th on the list. Among them, the Han DM sold 4,218 units, and the Han EV sold 3,540 units. The BYD Han L sold 2,202 units, ranking 14th, with the Han L EV accounting for 1,626 units and the Han L DM for 576 units. By the end of August, the cumulative sales of the BYD Han and Han L were 89,147 units and 16,948 units, respectively. The Han, BYD’s flagship model, was first launched in July 2020, while the Han L, which carries the classic design of the Han with a longer body, was launched in April 2025.
The Xiaopeng P7+ and Changan Qiyuan A07 both made it into the top 10, with sales of 4,846 units and 4,669 units in August, respectively. The cumulative sales of these two models as of the end of the year were 55,031 units and 37,987 units.
Other models that made it into the top 15 include the Zeekr 001, Lynk & Co 10 EM-P, IM L6, and eπ007. The August sales of these models were 3,474, 3,070, 2,425, and 2,173 units, with cumulative sales for the year reaching 24,126, 3,070, 14,311, and 16,091 units, respectively. Notably, the Lynk & Co 10 EM-P, a new model launched on September 8, comes in four variants and is priced between 173,800 and 211,800 RMB, with a limited-time price range of 163,800 to 201,800 RMB. Based on the CMA Evo new energy architecture, it features the Haohan H7 driving assistance system and Nvidia Thor chips, powered by a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 1.5T engine and electric motor, with a CLTC pure electric range of up to 240 km.
This concludes the list of the top 15 mid-to-large car sales for August. Since 2025, more car manufacturers have begun to release mid-to-large sedans, and with more new models being launched, it is expected that the car market reshuffling will become more pronounced.
