Peugeot e-208 GTi Officially Launched: The ‘Little Electric Rocket

On June 15, the all-new Peugeot e-208 GTi was officially launched. Built on the e-CMP platform, it is the first pure electric model in Peugeot’s performance-oriented GTi lineup. The new variant features a front-mounted single motor with a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 5.7 seconds and a WLTP-certified range of 350 km. The official guide price is RMB 246,800 (≈ USD 34,000), with overseas market launch expected by the end of this year.

For comparison, the Peugeot EV6 Flash Edition was introduced in January this year with a price of RMB 238,800 (≈ USD 32,950). The new “Flash Edition +” can be regarded as the mid-range trim of the EV6 series.

Exterior Design
The e-208 GTi largely inherits the styling of the standard e-208 but adds numerous sporty details. At the front, it features a larger grille with a dotted mesh pattern, accented by red highlights on the outer edges. The grille is seamlessly connected to the headlamps, which adopt a sharp, integrated design and are flanked by Peugeot’s signature vertical triple-stripe LED daytime running lights.

From the side, the model retains its five-door hatchback body style, with a pronounced shoulder line, black-painted B-pillars and mirror caps, and a black “208” badge on the C-pillar. Flared wheel arches enhance its muscular stance, while unique 7-hole horseshoe-style wheels with GTi badging pay homage to the classic Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9L. At the rear, the car features a full-width black trim bar connecting triple-stripe taillights with a red-to-black gradient element, along with a sporty rear bumper and diffuser-style details. Compared with the standard e-208, the front track is widened by 56 mm, the rear track by 27 mm, and overall height reduced by 30 mm.

Interior & Features
The interior adopts a bold red-and-black theme. It comes with an embedded digital instrument cluster, a flat-bottom two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and a floating 15.6-inch central multimedia screen. Physical climate control buttons and a rotary gear selector are retained, while the cabin is enhanced with carbon fiber trim, Alcantara upholstery, red accents, and GTi badging. The model is also equipped with the Peugeot i-Connect advanced infotainment system, supporting voice recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Feature highlights include an L2.5-level driver assistance system with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and front/rear cross-traffic alert. It also offers multiple driving modes, a power tailgate, faux-leather seats, power-adjustable heated front seats, automatic climate control with rear vents, parking sensors, and a 360° surround-view camera.

Performance
The e-208 GTi is powered by a front-mounted electric motor delivering 280 hp (approximately 206 kW) and 345 Nm of peak torque—the same specifications as the Abarth 600e and Alfa Romeo Junior. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 112 mph (≈180 km/h). A 54 kWh battery pack provides a WLTP range of 350 km, with support for up to 100 kW DC fast charging.

A major highlight of the new version is its non-contact biometric health monitoring technology, capable of tracking indicators such as blood pressure and heart rate through imaging. It also comes with a smart EEG sleep mask that can measure brain waves and assess sleep quality, aiming to enhance driver well-being.

Lineup and Market Positioning
This “Flash Edition +” is not the first EV6 variant to feature health-focused functions. Just days earlier, Skyworth launched the EV6 Xi Ai Premium Edition, priced at RMB 398,000 (≈ USD 54,900), which adds features such as wellness seats, a one-touch full-recline driver’s seat, and the EEG sleep mask. Previously, in late 2023, the brand released the EV6 Fuxing Edition at RMB 139,800 (≈ USD 19,300), marketed for its active sleep-promoting technology that supports intelligent deep-sleep induction and monitoring.

Given its dimensions and expected pricing, the Peugeot e-208 GTi will compete against models such as the electric MINI JCW, Alpine A290, and Renault 5. Overseas media estimate that the new e-208 GTi will be priced at around GBP 38,000 (≈ USD 48,600) in overseas markets.
