Latest Announcement! Chery Jaguar Land Rover and several other automakers announce recalls

On September 12, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) issued multiple recall announcements.

Chery Jaguar Land Rover Recalls
Due to a software issue with the All-Wheel Drive Control Module (AWDCM), which may cause overheating of the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) and lubricant leakage, there is a potential risk of smoke or even fire in extreme cases. Starting October 31, 2025, Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Co., Ltd. will recall a total of 37,492 units of domestically produced 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models manufactured between April 18, 2019, and October 30, 2020. This recall follows a defect investigation initiated by SAMR. The company will provide free software upgrades to the AWDCM to eliminate the safety risk. Vehicles that have already received the updated software will not require further action.

Additionally, due to abnormal cracking of the connector in the engine’s left-side low-pressure fuel line, which may lead to fuel leakage and, in extreme cases, engine bay fires, Chery Jaguar Land Rover will recall 64,731 units of domestically produced Jaguar XEL and XFL models (2020–2023 model years) manufactured between March 2, 2020, and May 30, 2023. The recall begins on January 30, 2026, and affected vehicles will have the fuel line replaced free of charge.

Other Automakers’ Recalls
Besides Chery Jaguar Land Rover, three other companies filed recall plans with SAMR on the same day: Volkswagen Group China, Ford Motor (China), and Fujian Benz Automotive Co., Ltd.

Volkswagen Group China (Lamborghini brand):
Effective immediately, recalls 5 units of the imported 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto, produced between September 18, 2024, and October 8, 2024. The defect involves improperly assembled ball studs that support the door’s gas struts, potentially leading to loose or detached studs. This could make the doors difficult to open or cause them to close unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury. Authorized Lamborghini dealers will inspect and tighten the ball studs to standard torque free of charge.

Fujian Benz Automotive Co., Ltd.:
Starting September 30, 2025, recalls 1,107 imported Mercedes-Benz Viano and Vito models produced between February 4, 2004, and December 13, 2005. If the driver’s front airbag was replaced during previous repairs, it may contain a Takata inflator without a desiccant. Over time, this could rupture during deployment, releasing metal fragments and injuring occupants. Authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers will inspect and replace affected airbags free of charge.

Ford Motor (China) Co., Ltd.:
Effective immediately, recalls multiple imported models:

2,286 units of the 2020 Lincoln Aviator (produced June 27–December 9, 2019).

1,151 units of the 2017–2018 Ford F-150 (produced April 3–June 25, 2017).

1,193 units of the 2017 Lincoln Navigator (produced February 1–June 25, 2017).

44 units of the new-generation Lincoln Navigator (produced November 8, 2024–March 21, 2025).

Industry Context
Recalls are a routine practice in the automotive industry, carried out by manufacturers under legal requirements to eliminate product defects and ensure safety. They serve the interests of automakers, dealers, and consumers alike. However, frequent recalls can also send a negative signal—raising doubts among owners and damaging brand reputation and consumer confidence.
