The starting price of the Haval Dog Plus is approximately $15,372 USD

On the evening of September 15th, the Haval Dog Plus from Great Wall Motors’ Haval brand was officially launched. The new car offers both fuel-powered and plug-in hybrid options, with a total of 5 variants. The starting price ranges from ¥135,800 to ¥183,800, and the limited-time trade-in price is available from ¥109,800 to ¥157,800.

The Haval Dog Plus is not a completely new model but is a renamed version of the second-generation Haval Dog. Previously, Zhao Yongpo, General Manager of the Haval brand at Great Wall Motors, explained that the name change helps clarify that the Haval Dog Plus is an upgraded version of the Haval Dog, rather than a new generation. The Haval Dog Plus is not just a “rebrand” but also features updated configurations. As a facelift of the second-generation Haval Dog, the new car continues with its boxy design but adopts a new front design language. Both the interior and exterior details, as well as configurations, have been upgraded and optimized, giving the new model a stronger retro feel compared to the previous version.

The front features a semi-sealed grille with horizontal chrome bars, a larger illuminated “HAVAL” logo, and round LED headlights that provide a more refined and elegant look. The lower bumper has large, narrow trapezoidal air intakes that enhance the sporty feel of the vehicle.

In terms of the side profile and rear, the changes are less noticeable, with only a few details optimized. The side features sharp lines, a retro, rugged layout, and a near-flat roofline with black wheel arches and exposed rivets. The new car is available in five colors: Golden Armor, Green Scale Armor, Ling Grey Armor, White Light Armor, and Black Armor. At the rear, the taillights are polygonal, and the “HAVAL” logo has been replaced by the “GWM” logo, making the car easily recognizable. The rugged rear bumper further enhances the car’s lateral stance.

The interior layout remains largely the same as the current model, with leather-wrapped seats. The new car comes with a 14.6-inch floating central touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, the Coffee OS 3 in-car system, and a 9-inch W-HUD heads-up display. A notable change is the introduction of a dual-spoke steering wheel and a shift-by-wire gear shifter, along with a redesigned dashboard layout and physical buttons for easier operation.

In terms of powertrain, the Haval Dog Plus offers three options: a 1.5T gasoline engine, a 2.0T gasoline engine, and a 1.5T Hi4 plug-in hybrid. The 1.5T gasoline version produces 135 kW and 275 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 2.0T gasoline version delivers 175 kW and 385 Nm of torque, paired with a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission and 4WD. The 1.5T Hi4 plug-in hybrid features second-generation Hi4 technology, with the engine producing 115 kW.

Retail data shows that by August 2025, the Haval Dog had sold 85,200 units, making it the best-selling product under the Haval brand. As a mid-size SUV, the new gasoline versions will compete with models such as the Chery Tiggo 8 and Exeed Lingyun, while the plug-in hybrid variants will compete with the Lynk & Co 08 EM-P and Tiggo 9 C-DM. It remains to be seen whether the Haval Dog Plus will win over consumers after its facelift, but anticipation is high.
