On August 27th, Volkswagen officially unveiled the all-new generation T-ROC. It is understood that the new T-ROC is built on the MEB Evo platform, positioned as a compact SUV between the T-Cross and Tiguan. Compared with the previous-generation model, the new vehicle has an overall increased size, adopts the latest design language, and is equipped with 1.5eTSI (48V mild hybrid) and 2.0eTSI (48V mild hybrid) powertrain systems. Notably, it is currently the only model under Volkswagen based on the MEB Evo platform that does not offer a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, and there are no plans for full electrification in the future. According to the official schedule, the all-new T-ROC will open for pre-sales in Germany on August 28th, then make its public debut at the 2025 Munich Motor Show opening on September 8th, and is planned to be launched overseas in November.

In terms of exterior design, the new vehicle features a more modern look. The all-new LED headlight assembly shares a similar style with Volkswagen’s ID. series electric models, paired with a luminous Volkswagen logo—connected by an LED light strip to the glowing central emblem. An optional IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlight system is also available. Additionally, the front bumper adopts a fully open-style air intake design for ventilation and heat dissipation, matched with a diamond-patterned mesh structure. Thick black decorative panels are fitted on both sides, and the “R” badge is embedded on the right side of the front bumper. It is reported that the all-new T-ROC will be offered in six exterior paint options: Pure White, Canary Yellow, Wolf Grey Metallic, Flame Red Metallic, Sky Blue Metallic, and King Kong Black Metallic. A two-tone body style with a pure black roof is also available as an option.
On the side profile, the new vehicle adopts a two-tone design (with the body and roof in different colors). The of the front and rear wheel arches is coordinated with the waistline to create a wide-body visual effect. Meanwhile, black wheel arches are paired with 20-inch black five-spoke alloy wheels, giving the overall design a more youthful and personalized appearance. In terms of dimensions, the new vehicle has an overall length of 4,373mm, and its wheelbase has increased by 28mm compared to the previous generation, reaching 2,631mm. At the rear, the new vehicle is equipped with a roof spoiler (with a built-in high-mount brake light) and a rear window wiper. The taillight assembly adopts a through-type design, and the main shape of the taillights on both sides forms a “π” pattern, which is highly recognizable when illuminated. The rear bumper and body form a multi-layered design; the lower bumper is finished in glossy black, and a rear diffuser decorative panel is used to conceal the exhaust layout.
Inside the cabin, the interior layout of the all-new T-ROC is similar to that of the all-new Tiguan and the updated Golf (Mk8.5). It is equipped with a 10-inch full LCD instrument cluster and a three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel—with physical buttons on the steering wheel (replacing the previous touch-sensitive buttons). Depending on the trim level, the center console will be fitted with a floating 10.4-inch or 12.9-inch multimedia touchscreen. The touch-sensitive buttons on both sides of the steering wheel have been removed and replaced with physical buttons, while the air conditioning system is still controlled via touch sliders. The center console is equipped with a wireless phone charging pad, and a driving mode selection knob is placed in the middle.
For the European market, the all-new T-ROC comes standard with a mild hybrid powertrain across the entire lineup. The 1.5eTSI (48V mild hybrid) front-wheel-drive models are available in two power outputs: a maximum power of 110kW (150hp) and 85kW (116hp). The 2.0eTSI (48V mild hybrid) all-wheel-drive models are equipped with the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, though Volkswagen has not yet announced their maximum power. All models are mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG). Notably, in 2027, Volkswagen will also launch the T-ROC R model equipped with the EA888 engine, which will have a maximum power exceeding 330hp.
The Volkswagen T-ROC is a compact SUV under Volkswagen, first launched in 2017. It was later introduced to the Chinese market by FAW-Volkswagen with an extended wheelbase, and was named “Tange” (the Chinese name for the domestic version). The domestic T-ROC was officially launched in July 2018, with a price range of RMB 139,800 to RMB 209,800, offering 1.2T and 1.4T engine options. Later, the 1.2T version was discontinued and a 1.5T version was added, with all models paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The model unveiled this time is the second-generation T-ROC, which is expected to be further introduced to the Chinese market for local production in the future. Data shows that from January to July 2025, the cumulative sales of the FAW-Volkswagen Tange reached 36,006 units, ranking ninth among all Volkswagen models in China. Based on the domestic version, potential competitors of the Tange in the same class include the Dongfeng Nissan Qashqai and the GAC Toyota (Fenglanda).
