Chery Fengyun X3L Launched in China, Starting at $15,200 USD

On the evening of September 17, Chery’s Fengyun brand officially launched its all-new compact SUV, the Fengyun X3L. A total of four variants were introduced, with official prices ranging from RMB 119,900 to RMB 159,900 (~USD $16,600–$22,100). For a limited-time “super trade-in” promotion, prices are reduced to RMB 109,900–RMB 149,900 (~USD $15,200–$20,700).

The Fengyun X3L is the newest member of the Fengyun X3 family, positioned as a larger and more rugged compact SUV. It adopts a boxy off-road-inspired design and is powered by a 1.5T range-extended hybrid system.

Exterior Design
The SUV features a squared-off profile with a black trim panel across the front, integrating “i”-shaped LED DRLs and an illuminated CHERY badge for strong recognition. Black cladding on the wheel arches, raised hood lines, and a muscular stance emphasize its off-road character. At the rear, the X3L uses vertical taillights and a side-hinged tailgate with soft-close function. A 48L external storage box (“little backpack”) replaces the traditional spare tire, improving practicality for outdoor use.

Dimensions measure 4545 (4503)/1950/1815 (1785) mm, with a wheelbase of 2783 mm, making it larger than the Fengyun X3 and X3 PLUS.

Interior & Features
Inside, the X3L is minimalist and tech-focused, with a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen powered by a Snapdragon 8155 chip, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and a flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel. Physical buttons are mostly removed, replaced by a clean design with grab handles for an off-road vibe. The SUV also offers the Falcon 500 ADAS suite, supporting highway and urban navigation assist. Seating comes in a 2+3 five-seat layout, with powered front seats.

Powertrain
The X3L is equipped with a 1.5T range extender (115 kW) paired with single-motor RWD (185 kW, 300 Nm) or dual-motor AWD (315 kW, 505 Nm). A 33.68 kWh LFP battery provides 215 km pure electric range, while combined range exceeds 1,000 km.

Market Positioning
Compared with the existing Fengyun X3 (RMB 89,900–109,900 / ~$12,400–$15,200) and X3 PLUS (RMB 109,900–139,900 / ~$15,200–$19,400), the X3L is the largest and most advanced model in the family. It will compete against rivals such as the Jetour Shanhai T1, BAIC BJ30 Hybrid, and Haval Big Dog PLUS PHEV.
