117,000 units! Xiaomi Auto announces recall of the SU7

On September 19th, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) issued a recall notice. Xiaomi Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. has filed a recall plan with SAMR in accordance with the “Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automotive Products” and the “Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automotive Products.”

The announcement states that some vehicles within the recall range may have insufficient recognition, warning, or handling of extreme and special scenarios when the L2 highway piloting assist feature is activated, which could increase the risk of a collision if the driver does not intervene in time, posing a safety hazard. Xiaomi Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. has decided to recall certain SU7 standard edition electric vehicles produced between February 6, 2024, and August 30, 2025, totaling 116,887 units. This includes Recall ID S2025M0149I, involving the XMA7000MBEVR2 and XMA7000MBEVR2 models, totaling 98,462 units, and Recall ID S2025M0150I, involving the BJ7000MBEVR2 model, totaling 18,425 units. In response to these defects, Xiaomi Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. will use over-the-air (OTA) technology to provide free software updates to the vehicles in the recall range to eliminate the safety risk.

Currently, Xiaomi Automotive has launched two models: the Xiaomi SU7 and the Xiaomi YU7. The Xiaomi SU7 is Xiaomi’s first vehicle, launched in March 2024, with a price range of 215,900 to 299,900 yuan. The Xiaomi YU7, the company’s second model and first SUV, was launched on June 26 this year, with a price range of 253,500 to 329,900 yuan. Retail data shows that in August, the Xiaomi SU7 maintained its position at the top of the mid-to-large sedan category with 19,848 units sold, marking eight consecutive months at the top. As of the first eight months of this year, the Xiaomi SU7 has accumulated a total of 199,950 units sold, making it the highest-selling mid-to-large sedan of the year. The launch success of the Xiaomi SU7 can be considered a textbook marketing case, demonstrating consumer recognition of the model.

The recalled vehicles are the Xiaomi SU7 standard edition, priced at 219,900 yuan. This is Xiaomi Automotive’s second recall of the year. In January, due to a software strategy issue, it was found that there could be abnormal time synchronization, affecting the detection of static obstacles by the intelligent parking assist function and increasing the risk of scraping or collisions. Xiaomi Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. recalled 30,931 SU7 standard edition electric vehicles produced between February 6, 2024, and November 26, 2024. This included 18,410 vehicles of the BJ7000MBEVR2 model, 12,117 vehicles of the XMA7000MBEVR2 model, and 404 vehicles of the XMA7000MBEVR5 model. To address these defects, the company used over-the-air (OTA) technology to provide free software updates for the vehicles in the recall range to eliminate the safety risk.

Based on this recall notice, both of Xiaomi Automotive’s recalls can be resolved through OTA updates, meaning vehicle owners do not need to visit the dealership to complete the recall.

Today, Xiaomi Automotive announced the OTA autumn major version update. The Xiaomi SU7 will begin receiving the update, which includes optimizations for the highway piloting assist feature, adjustments to the lighting strategy when the assistive driving function is activated, the addition of parking offset assist, and the introduction of an anti-misstep function called “Mis-acceleration Suppression Assistance (MAI).”
