BYD retained its lead with 310,200 units, though sales dropped 18.3%, followed by Geely Auto with 134,400 units (+81.4% YoY) and Changan Auto with 72,300 units (+38.2% YoY). SAIC-GM-Wuling (61,400 units) and Tesla China (57,200 units) ranked fourth and fifth, both posting year-on-year declines.

The biggest highlight was Leapmotor, achieving record sales of 51,200 units to secure sixth place. Its C10 and B10 models contributed most, while the newly unveiled Leapmotor Lafa5 debuted at the Munich Motor Show, set for launch in Guangzhou later this year.

Huawei-backed AITO (HarmonyOS Auto) also performed strongly with 44,600 units, driven by the M8 and M9 models.

Notably, Xiaomi Auto re-entered the top 10 with 36,400 units, a surge of 177.6% YoY, underscoring its growing momentum in the NEV sector. Chery Auto (39,100 units) and Seres Auto also secured top-10 positions.

From January to August, China’s NEV retail sales totaled 7.57 million units, up 26% YoY, with NEVs surpassing fuel vehicles in market share for the first time. Analysts note that while BYD continues to dominate, rivals such as Geely, Changan, Leapmotor, and Xiaomi are intensifying competition in the world’s largest EV market.
