On the evening of October 22, JD.com’s “National Car” No. 001 was sold for an astronomical price of 78.19 million yuan on JD.com’s auction platform, sparking widespread industry discussion. According to reports, the “National Car” No. 001 recently launched on JD’s “JD Auction” channel, with the auction opening for online reservations on October 17 and officially starting on October 22 at 14:00.
The auction rules stated that the starting price for the bid was only 1 yuan, with a maximum bid increment of 4,490 yuan. The deposit was set at 100 yuan, which would be deducted from the payment if the winning bidder successfully paid. If the bidder canceled the order after payment or failed to pay, the deposit of 100 yuan would be forfeited. However, the deposit for unsuccessful bidders would be refunded. In the end, the auction attracted over 260,000 participants, with over 23,000 bids placed, and the final auction price was set at 78.19 million yuan.
In response to the “78.19 million yuan price for No. 001 car,” JD Auto’s official Weibo post stated: “We didn’t expect that JD No. 001 ‘National Car’ auction would receive such enthusiastic attention. To thank everyone for their enthusiastic participation, we will send each user who placed a bid a 399-yuan ‘National Car’ new car gift package and other benefits when they purchase the car. Additionally, we will send a car to the user whose bid is closest to the final auction price.” At the same time, JD Auto also mentioned that users could participate in a new product lottery in JD’s app, with a chance to win a 5-year usage right for the “National Car.”
On October 14, JD announced that during the “2025 JD 11.11” event, JD, together with GAC and CATL, would officially launch a mysterious national car. This news spread widely, and many media outlets interpreted it as JD’s official entry into the automotive industry. In response, JD clarified that the car was a joint product from three parties, with JD mainly providing consumer insights and exclusive sales, without directly being involved in the manufacturing process.
Today, GAC Aion announced that the “National Car” co-developed by GAC Group, CATL, and JD would officially be named the “Aion UT Super” and revealed a teaser image of the new car. According to the teaser, the new car features a three-color exterior, and its wheel design is consistent with the top model of the 2025 Aion UT 420 Intelligence Edition. The wheel size is likely 17 inches, with tire specifications of 215/55 R17. Officially, the new car’s wheelbase is 2,750mm, providing 905mm of legroom in the second row, allowing passengers who are 1.8 meters tall to sit comfortably. It also offers 1,385mm of lateral space, ensuring that three people can sit comfortably. The car features a rare front-seat folding bed function, which turns the seat into a bed, greatly improving comfort. Overall, the space performance is considered a benchmark in the segment. Additionally, the new car uses CATL’s Chocolate Battery Swap Technology, offering a 500km range with a fast 99-second battery swap, supporting both charging and battery swapping. In terms of technology, the new car is the first to feature “GAC Huawei Cloud Car Machine” technology and is equipped with “Reverse Sentinel,” which automatically stops the car when an obstacle is detected during reverse parking.
According to previous official announcements, the new car will launch its internal testing version and public test drive activities by the end of October, with an official unveiling on November 9. Regarding the highly anticipated price, market sources suggest that the Aion UT Super is estimated to be priced between 100,000 to 120,000 yuan. The final price remains to be seen.
