Only 4 days away from the launch of Xiaomi’s first model, Xiaomi SU7, there have been an endless stream of information about Xiaomi SU7 on the internet these days. Of course, most of this information is about the pricing of Xiaomi SU7. Today, Xiaomi founder Lei Jun responded to the issues of why the price of Xiaomi SU7 has not been announced for a long time and why the first model of Xiaomi’s car is a sedan.
In the video, Lei Jun said: “The preheating period for the release of a car in the automotive industry is relatively long. Generally, it takes more than half a year, and some models even take two to three years. From the press conference to the official product release, Xiaomi SU7 took exactly three months, which is very fast in the automotive industry. At the same time, Lei Jun also revealed that in these three months, the main task is to prepare for large-scale production, as well as the construction of a national sales, service, and payment network, and to ensure the quality is foolproof, an additional mass-produced vehicle test was added.
In addition, Lei Jun also mentioned the pricing issue of Xiaomi SU7 in the video, stating that Xiaomi SU7 is a C-class luxury sedan with very powerful configurations, and the price may be a bit expensive, but I believe everyone will feel that it is worth the money after watching the press conference. It is understood that Xiaomi SU7 will open static appreciation tomorrow, be listed and announce the price on March 28, and open for external test drives on March 29.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Lei Jun has emphasized that the price of Xiaomi SU7 may be a bit expensive. As early as the Xiaomi Automobile Technology Day, Lei Jun once said: Xiaomi Automobile has performance indicators no less than Tesla Model S, and the three indicators of 0-100km/h acceleration, 100km/h-0 braking distance, and maximum speed are not behind. Regarding the price, Lei Jun also said at the Technology Day: Don’t shout 99,000 yuan, it’s impossible, the battery is particularly expensive, as long as it is a 100-degree battery, ternary lithium, and CATL, these three combined mean that the cost is more than 100,000 yuan. As long as the car uses such a battery pack, the average price is above 400,000 yuan, and 149,000 yuan is no longer mentioned, and we still need to respect science and technology. Judging from the product configuration announced by the official on the Xiaomi Technology Day and the information revealed by the official, many industry insiders pointed out that the price of Xiaomi SU7 is unlikely to be very low.
A few days ago, there was news on the market that an informed person disclosed that Xiaomi Group has determined the pricing of Xiaomi’s first model SU7, and the standard version may be priced at 266,000 yuan, and the high-version is priced at 336,000 yuan. It is also stated that this price has been reduced by 30,000 to 50,000 yuan compared to last year’s pricing. The official subsequently responded to this news, stating that all the price information about Xiaomi SU7 currently circulating is untrue, and the final price of Xiaomi’s car will follow the company’s consistent strategy and be revealed to the public when the product is officially released.
Actually, regarding the claim that Xiaomi SU7 is somewhat expensive, Lei Jun also recently posted an article to explain this. Lei Jun said, “The standard configuration of Xiaomi SU7 is much richer than Model 3, with solid materials. In the early stage of the product’s launch, the procurement cost is also very high. There is indeed some pressure on the pricing, and I hope everyone understands. In any case, it will definitely make everyone feel that it is worth the money.” In addition, Lei Jun also said that the cost of Xiaomi SU7 test vehicles is quite expensive, initially around 2 million per vehicle.
Of course, the official promotion of Xiaomi SU7 is a bit expensive, and whether it can ultimately make users feel that it is worth the money may still require the verification of time.
For the pricing of Xiaomi SU7, autotimes believes that it may be more than 200,000 yuan. First of all, from the pricing of models such as Tesla Model and BYD Han that Xiaomi SU7 is competing with in the market, the pricing of these models is in the range of 200,000 to 300,000 yuan. Secondly, assuming that the pricing of Xiaomi’s first model is within 200,000 yuan, the competition in this range is very fierce. As a new brand model, Xiaomi SU7 may not have any advantages in this range.
In this regard, some industry insiders pointed out that the best way for Xiaomi Automobile to enter the market at present is to start with high-end vehicles, and then expand the product line later, which is more conducive to seizing market share.
This evening, Lei Jun also answered the question of why the first model of Xiaomi Automobile is a sedan. Lei Jun said, “The driving experience of a sedan is better, it is more suitable for daily driving by one person, and it can also take into account the two-person world and small family. In addition, the demand in the sedan market is very large, and the total amount is similar to that of SUV. Making a good pure electric sedan is very difficult. In fact, there are not many good pure electric sedans in the market.”
