October 28 — The Smart #5 EHD, Smart’s First Plug-in Hybrid SUV, Officially Launches (Priced $23,000–$30,000 USD Limited Offer)
On October 28, Smart officially launched its first plug-in hybrid model—the Smart #5 EHD—available in four trims. The standard prices range from ¥189,900 to ¥239,900 RMB (approximately $26,000–$33,000 USD), while the limited-time offer reduces that to ¥169,900–¥219,900 RMB (about $23,000–$30,000 USD).

Exterior Design
The new Smart #5 EHD continues the design style of the pure electric version, staying true to Smart’s playful and youthful brand character. The headlights feature distinctive “capsule” elements, forming a segmented light strip—an eye-catching alternative to the common full-width light bar seen on many modern vehicles.
Body and Dimensions
The body design uses mostly straight lines, prioritizing cabin space efficiency rather than overly experimental styling. Dimensions are 4,705 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,710 mm in height, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, ensuring ample interior room for its class.
Technology and Features
The Smart Pilot Assist intelligent driving system includes 36 high-precision sensors. Built on a “map-free + end-to-end” architecture, the NSP Intelligent Pilot can handle highway, urban, and ramp conditions with ease—achieving an average intersection pass rate of over 95%, lane-change success rate over 93%, and ramp merging success rate over 95%.
Powertrain and Performance
The Smart #5 EHD features a 1.5T gasoline engine paired with an electric motor in a plug-in hybrid system, delivering a maximum output of 120 kW. It offers an electric-only range exceeding 250 km, while fuel consumption with a depleted battery is as low as 4.4 L/100 km (CLTC cycle). The combined driving range under the CLTC standard surpasses 1,600 km, giving it excellent long-distance capability.
