Tesla FSD Subscription Rate Only 12%, Related Revenue Declines Year-on-Year in Q3 2025

On October 28, Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software — one of the company’s most iconic features — continues to see relatively low adoption among owners. According to Vaibhav Taneja, Tesla’s Chief Financial Officer, only a small fraction of Tesla owners are actually using the service. During the company’s Q3 2025 earnings call, Taneja acknowledged that Tesla had made “good progress” in encouraging more customers to subscribe to FSD, but also confirmed that FSD-related revenue declined year-on-year compared to Q3 2024.

Taneja stated, “The total number of customers currently paying for FSD remains small, accounting for only about 12% of our existing fleet.”

For the Model 3 and Model Y in the U.S. market, Tesla currently charges $8,000 (approximately ¥56,900 RMB) for the FSD (Supervised) package. According to Tesla’s website, the system allows the vehicle to “drive almost anywhere with minimal driver intervention.” Before 2024, this feature was priced at $12,000 (about ¥85,350 RMB). In contrast, Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck Cyberbeast models include the FSD package at no additional cost. The company has long faced public scrutiny and legal challenges for allegedly misleading marketing and deceptive naming of its autonomous driving software.

While Tesla did not disclose specific FSD revenue figures for Q3 2025, it confirmed that the total was lower than the $326 million (≈ ¥2.319 billion RMB) reported in the same period of 2024. There are also no precise data indicating how many customers are currently maintaining active FSD subscriptions. Tesla’s total revenue for Q3 2025 reached $28.1 billion.

The company explained that one-time FSD purchases were likely higher last year, partly because Tesla had introduced new features such as “Actually Smart Summon” and rolled out a Cybertruck-specific version of FSD at that time.
