Safety Hazards Identified! Multiple Automakers Announce Recalls

On August 29th, according to the General Administration of Market Supervision of the People’s Republic of China (SAMR), several automakers have filed recall plans with SAMR due to potential safety hazards in their vehicles. The automakers involved in the recalls are Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd., Beijing Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd., and Stellantis (Shanghai) Automobile Co., Ltd.

Among them, Great Wall Motor announced a recall for certain Ora Black Cat and Ora White Cat vehicles. The issue stems from problems during the power battery production process, which may cause the positive and negative electrode sheets of some battery cells to shift, leading to excessive self-discharge of the cells. In extreme cases, this could result in overheating of the power battery, posing a safety hazard. Specifically, the recall covers 53 units of the Ora Black Cat pure electric vehicles produced between July 2, 2021, and April 30, 2022, as well as 14 units of the Ora White Cat pure electric vehicles produced between July 19, 2021, and December 27, 2021. Subsequently, the official stated that it will provide free replacement of the defective power battery modules for the vehicles within the recall scope to eliminate the safety hazard.

Beijing Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd. is recalling vehicles due to a manufacturing process issue: the tightening torque of the rear wheel brake hoses and four-way connectors may be insufficient. Under special circumstances, this could lead to a reduction in the vehicle’s braking performance, creating a safety hazard. The official announced the recall of 3,469 units of the 2024 款 Kustoo (Kusuto) vehicles produced between May 11, 2025, and June 24, 2025. The official stated that it will offer free replacement of the rear wheel brake hoses and four-way connectors for the vehicles within the recall scope to eliminate the safety hazard.

Stellantis (Shanghai) Automobile Co., Ltd. is recalling vehicles due to a software fault. In extreme cases, this fault may prevent the fuel evaporation leakage fault code in the engine control module from being cleared after the fault is repaired, which is inconsistent with the relevant requirements of motor vehicle emission standards and poses a risk of unreasonable emissions. Stellantis (Shanghai) Automobile Co., Ltd. announced the recall of 22,870 units of certain imported Giulia and Stelvio vehicles produced between January 19, 2017, and September 30, 2024. The official stated that it will provide free software updates for the engine control modules of the vehicles within the recall scope to eliminate the risk of unreasonable emissions.
