On September 24, Nissan officially released the official images of the all-new Sentra (the domestic counterpart is the Dongfeng Nissan X-Trail). Its exterior design largely mirrors the recently released Dongfeng Nissan X-Trail, while the interior also sees significant changes compared to the current model. The new Sentra is expected to launch in the North American market later this year, while the domestic version of the all-new X-Trail will be released in the first quarter of 2026.

Looking at the official images, the all-new Sentra adopts the new-generation V-motion family design language. The overall appearance is very similar to the domestic all-new X-Trail, with the front face featuring a newly designed grille with the Nissan brand logo at the center, giving a more youthful and sporty look. The headlamp design is similar to the Dongfeng Nissan N7, using an “L” shaped design that seamlessly integrates with the horizontal grille trim, creating a fang-like effect. Compared to the domestic X-Trail, the all-new Sentra adds an SR Sport version, which includes blacked-out treatment on the grille, front and rear bumpers, and window frames. It also features 18-inch two-tone wheels, a black roof, and a rear spoiler, further enhancing its sporty feel.
On the side, the all-new Sentra adds a small side window beneath the C-pillar and modifies the waistline. Its dimensions are 4656/1820/1450mm with a 2710mm wheelbase, which is similar to the domestic X-Trail (4656/1825/1448mm, 2712mm wheelbase). At the rear, the Sentra features blacked-out, full-width tail lights and a black rear emblem, with the rear bumper design also being adjusted.
Inside, there are significant changes compared to the current model. The all-new Sentra adopts a completely new design style, featuring a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, both supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Physical buttons are retained below the screen and are cleverly integrated with the air conditioning vents. Other features include an electric sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, front seat heating, and an 8-speaker Bose audio system. In terms of safety, the vehicle will be equipped with 10 airbags and the ProPILOT Assist driver assistance system.
Powering the all-new Sentra is still a 2.0L engine, producing a maximum power of 151 horsepower and a peak torque of 198 Nm. It is paired with a CVT transmission and features a front MacPherson and rear multi-link suspension system.
The Nissan Sentra is a compact sedan produced by Nissan, with the first generation (B11) launched in 1982. Subsequent generations were released in 1986, 1990, 1995, 1999, and 2006. In 2012, Nissan launched the seventh generation of the Sentra, which became the Nissan X-Trail (Sylphy) for the North American market, based on Nissan’s V platform and with a larger body size. The eighth generation was introduced in 2019, featuring a new design, a 2.0L four-cylinder engine, and a CVT transmission. The all-new Sentra released this time can be considered the ninth-generation model.
In China, the official images and filing images of the all-new X-Trail have already been released. The exterior design of the new vehicle is basically the same as the all-new Nissan Sentra, with a 1.6L naturally aspirated engine. It is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2026. According to filing information, the all-new Dongfeng Nissan X-Trail has dimensions of 4656/1825/1448mm with a 2712mm wheelbase.
In the compact car segment, the X-Trail’s biggest competitors are other joint-venture compact cars like the Volkswagen Lavida, Bora, Toyota Corolla, and Hyundai Elantra. However, due to the new and old models being sold concurrently, the X-Trail has become the king of compact cars and even sedans. According to the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), from January to August 2025, the cumulative sales of the Nissan X-Trail reached 190,400 units, ranking second in the compact car market, only behind the BYD Qin PLUS, outperforming models like the Volkswagen Lavida and Toyota Corolla.
