At the 2025 Chengdu Auto Show, Dongfeng Fengshen officially launched its new flagship plug-in hybrid SUV, the Fengshen L8. The new vehicle is offered in four variants, with prices ranging from 129,900 to 149,900 RMB, and a limited-time offer starting at 113,900 to 133,900 RMB.

Looking at the exterior design, the new vehicle adopts the brand’s family design language, with a rounded and full visual appearance, creating a strong visual impact. The front features a closed grille paired with striking, full-width LED daytime running lights. The matrix headlights at the bottom contain 168 individual light sources, creating a unique technological feel, and offering easy identification when lit. The lower bumper retains the ventilation openings, with black treatment and a silver underbody shield, further enhancing the layered and sporty look of the front.
On the side, the new vehicle features bold lines combined with a sloping roofline, creating a coupe-like visual effect. The silver trim on the door frame complements this sporty and aesthetic design. The car does not adopt the popular hidden door handle design, instead using semi-hidden door handles paired with low-resistance wheels, balancing practicality and a high-tech appearance. At the rear, the vehicle’s tail lights follow a full-width design, echoing the front and offering high recognition when lit at night. The rear bumper uses a two-tone layered design, and the recessed license plate area enhances the three-dimensional look of the rear. The tailgate features the Dongfeng Automotive and Fengshen L8 logo, further increasing the vehicle’s recognition. As for the exhaust, the vehicle comes with a hidden exhaust layout.
In terms of body colors, the vehicle is available in six options: Cloud White, Star Forged Green, Fine Gold, Moon Gray, Ink Black, and Night Gray. The dimensions of the new car are 4762/1910/1677mm, with a wheelbase of 2825mm, positioning it as a compact plug-in hybrid SUV. For comparison, the Dongfeng Fengshen L7 has dimensions of 4670mm/1900mm/1625mm and a wheelbase of 2775mm. While both are compact plug-in hybrid SUVs, the new vehicle is larger overall.
Inside, the vehicle adopts a minimalist style with a wraparound cockpit design. It offers three interior color options: white-red, brown, and black, and features cloud-soft seats that are both practical and visually appealing. In terms of configuration, the car is equipped with a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, supporting Deepseek and Doubao dual AI models for a convenient and intelligent user experience. Other features include a dual-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a rotary gear shift, a refrigerator, a TV, and a large sofa. In terms of driver assistance, the car comes with AEB automatic braking, ACC adaptive cruise control, and other functions. The vehicle is designed with a 5-seat layout, with the rear offering an aviation-style small table, a 4.5L heating/cooling box, and a 15.6-inch 2.5K rear ceiling screen, further enhancing the technological feel.
Power-wise, the new car is equipped with the Mach-E electric hybrid system, with a 1.5T turbocharged engine as standard. The system delivers a maximum combined power of 265 kW and a maximum combined torque of 615 Nm, paired with a 4-speed DHT gearbox. The battery is a 30.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a pure electric range of 185 km.
Dongfeng Fengshen is Dongfeng’s earliest established independent brand, launched in March 2009. Current models include the Haoge, Aiyuan, Aiyuan MAX, Aiyuan GS, AX7, and Fengshen L7. According to retail data, Dongfeng Fengshen’s cumulative sales from January to July this year reached 49,732 units, with the Fengshen L7 new energy version selling 24,710 units, Aiyuan selling 11,184 units, and Haohan, Haoge, and Dongfeng Fengshen E70 selling 8,165 units, 3,889 units, and 1,784 units, respectively. With the launch of the Fengshen L8, Dongfeng Fengshen’s product matrix will be further enhanced.
Given the positioning of the Fengshen L8 as a compact plug-in hybrid SUV, the new model will target family users and consumers seeking high value for money. It will compete with popular models like the BYD Song PLUS DM, Geely Galaxy L7, and Jetu Shanhai T1. Overall, the new vehicle shows strong performance in exterior design, intelligent technology, and various configurations. However, it’s important to note that vehicles in the 100,000 to 150,000 RMB price range are highly competitive in the car market. In this context, with a limited-time price starting at 113,900 RMB, whether the Fengshen L8 can gain a foothold in this segment will be worth looking forward to.
