The HarmonyOS-powered new car, the Shangjie H5, has officially launched with a starting price of 21,892.60 USD

On September 23, the first model of the Shangjie brand, the Shangjie H5, was officially launched. The new car offers six versions in total, including two extended-range versions and four pure electric versions. The extended-range versions are priced between 159,800 and 179,800 RMB, while the pure electric versions are priced between 165,800 and 199,800 RMB. According to previous reports, Shangjie is a car brand launched through a partnership between Huawei and SAIC, and it is the fifth brand under the HarmonyOS intelligent driving ecosystem. The Shangjie H5 is the first model of the Shangjie brand and the youngest product under HarmonyOS Intelligent Driving, positioned as a mid-size SUV. It comes standard with HarmonyOS cockpit, HUAWEI ADS 4 driver assistance system (for high-end models), and the HUAWEI XMOTION digital chassis engine, which means that the mass market can now enjoy Huawei’s intelligent driving technology.

In terms of appearance, the Shangjie H5 adopts the design language of the HarmonyOS Intelligent Driving family, featuring a closed front grille paired with narrow headlamps on both sides, offering good visual recognition. The front bumper’s air intake grille is expected to feature an active opening and closing function, with additional ventilation openings on either side. The exterior details of the pure electric and extended-range versions of the Shangjie H5 are mostly consistent, except for differences in wheel designs. The new car will be available in six colors: Cloud Water Blue, Midsummer Purple, Elegant River Green, Ceramic White, Moonstone Gray, and Golden Black.

From the side, the Shangjie H5 does not use the typical hidden door handle design common in new energy vehicles, but instead features a conventional door handle. At the rear, the Shangjie H5 adopts a relatively simple design style, equipped with a popular full-width taillight. The rear bumper features gloss black trim and chrome strips, with the extended-range version using a hidden exhaust layout. In terms of size, both the pure electric and extended-range versions of the Shangjie H5 share the same dimensions, measuring 4780/1910/1657 (1664) mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2840 mm, positioning it as a mid-size SUV.

Inside, the Shangjie H5 follows the HarmonyOS cockpit design style, featuring a minimalist design. It is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen, meeting current user needs. The new car comes with a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with black trim, touch buttons, and a rolling wheel. It also uses a rotary gearshift mechanism, and the vehicle’s passenger dashboard is equipped with a wireless charging panel for mobile phones. Additionally, the central screen reveals a device behind it, possibly the light-and-sound acoustic AI “Star Ring Scattering Body,” which houses the HUAWEI SOUND SUPERIOR audio system. The interior offers four color options: Night Purple, Peach Almond, Dusk Gray, and Red Tea Orange.

In terms of driver assistance, the Shangjie H5 Max version is equipped with HUAWEI ADS 4, featuring a 192-line LiDAR sensor, 11 high-definition cameras, 3 4D millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars. It supports Parking-to-Parking (P2P) navigation assistance (version 2.0). The Shangjie H5 Pro version comes with the basic HUAWEI ADS, featuring 10 high-definition cameras, 3 4D millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars. The basic version uses a pure visual scheme and does not support urban NCA, but does support urban LCC and LCC+ with traffic light recognition, as well as NCA on highways and urban expressways.

In terms of power, the Shangjie H5 offers both extended-range and pure electric options. The extended-range version is equipped with a 1.5L range extender engine from SAIC, with a maximum power of 80 kW and a combined power of 150 kW. It comes with a 32.6 kWh battery, offering a CLTC pure electric range of 235 km, and a full range of 1360 km with both fuel and electricity. The pure electric versions are equipped with a single motor, offering maximum power of 150 kW or 180 kW, and a 64.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, with a CLTC pure electric range of 535 km. An 80 kWh ternary lithium battery is available, providing a CLTC pure electric range of 655 km.

On February 21, SAIC Group and Huawei signed a deep cooperation agreement, aiming to collaborate on product definition, production, supply chain management, and sales services to create new energy intelligent vehicles. Following this, the Shangjie brand was born, becoming the fifth brand under HarmonyOS Intelligent Driving, after Aito, Zhiwei, Xiangjie, and Zunjie. The first model, the Shangjie H5, is a mid-size SUV featuring the HUAWEI ADS 4 driving assistance system, available in both extended-range and pure electric versions, with single or dual motors available for the pure electric version, offering a wide range of choices for consumers.

From a market positioning perspective, the Shangjie H5 is currently the most affordable model in the HarmonyOS Intelligent Driving lineup, offering high value for money as a mid-size SUV, with the key advantage being Huawei’s technology integration. Competitors include mid-size new energy SUVs in the 150,000-200,000 RMB price range, such as the BYD Song L, Leap Motor C11, DeepBlue S07, Fengyun T9, Xpeng G6, and Haise 06. The Shangjie H5 faces not only competition from models within its class but also pressure from cross-class competitors. In the 150,000-200,000 RMB market, sales are crucial, and this is the biggest challenge for the Shangjie H5. So, with a starting price of 159,800 RMB, will the Shangjie H5 become a best-seller?
