Finally, Growth! BMW Announces Third-Quarter Sales Figures

On October 10, local time, BMW Group released its latest sales report, showing that in the third quarter, the company’s global sales reached 588,300 units, a year-on-year increase of 8.8%. For the first three quarters of the year, total sales amounted to 1,795,894 units, growing by 2.4%. In the third quarter, BMW’s electric vehicle sales totaled 151,282 units, a year-on-year increase of 8.0%, with 102,864 units of pure electric vehicles sold, down 0.6% year-on-year. For the first three quarters, total electric vehicle sales reached 470,313 units, a growth of 15.0%, with 323,447 units of pure electric vehicles sold, an increase of 10.0%.



Brand-Specific Performance
By brand, BMW sold 514,620 units in the third quarter, up 5.7% year-on-year. Thanks to this growth, the brand’s sales in the first three quarters grew by 0.1%, totaling 1,585,580 units. Among these, BMW M high-performance cars sold 52,220 units in the third quarter, a growth of 11.0%, and in the first three quarters, 158,182 units were sold, an increase of 7.9%. The MINI brand sold 72,376 units in the third quarter, a significant increase of 37.5%, with cumulative sales in the first three quarters reaching 206,214 units, up 23.7%. Additionally, Rolls-Royce sold 1,304 units in the third quarter, up 13.3%, and the first three quarters saw a total of 4,100 units, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%.

Market Performance
In terms of regional performance, most markets (except China) experienced year-on-year growth. In Europe, BMW Group’s sales grew by 9.3% in the third quarter, totaling 239,620 units, with cumulative sales in the first three quarters reaching 737,641 units, up 8.6%. In Germany, BMW’s home market, sales reached 72,939 units in the third quarter, an increase of 12.3%, with cumulative sales for the first three quarters at 208,218 units, up 6.5%. In the Americas, BMW’s third-quarter sales were 125,944 units, up 24.4%, and cumulative sales for the first three quarters reached 363,101 units, a growth of 9.8%. Specifically, in the U.S., third-quarter sales totaled 104,163 units, up 24.9%, with first-quarter cumulative sales of 297,247 units, a 9.5% increase.

In Asia, BMW Group’s third-quarter sales remained steady at 206,156 units, with cumulative sales for the first three quarters at 644,429 units, a decline of 7.9% year-on-year. In China, BMW’s largest single market globally, total sales in the first three quarters were 464,971 units, down 11.2%, with third-quarter sales of 147,121 units, a slight decline of 0.4%. China accounted for 25% of BMW Group’s global sales, making it the company’s largest single market.

Comparison with Mercedes-Benz
In contrast, Mercedes-Benz Group’s third-quarter global sales totaled 525,300 units, a 12% year-on-year decrease. The first three quarters saw a total of 1,601,600 units, down 9% year-on-year. In China, Mercedes-Benz, which is the largest single market for the brand, saw third-quarter sales of 125,100 units, a decline of 27%, and cumulative sales for the first three quarters totaled 418,300 units, a 18% year-on-year decrease.

Future Plans
BMW plans for its electric vehicles to account for over 50% of its global sales by 2030. In terms of product development, the company is taking significant steps forward. Over the next two years, BMW plans to launch 20 new models, with over 80% expected to be electrified. By the end of 2027, BMW will launch more than 40 new models, most of which will be mid-cycle updates or full redesigns of existing models.

On September 5, BMW Group officially unveiled the new generation BMW iX3 at its global debut in Munich. This vehicle is the first mass-produced model under BMW Group’s new electrification strategy. It is based on a new intelligent electronic architecture and closely follows the design style of the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. The new model will also be produced locally in China. The overseas version is scheduled for production and delivery to the European market by the end of the year. The China-specific version will be unveiled later this year and is set for local production in 2026.
