Jaguar Land Rover responds to the UK cyberattack incident, stating that retail operations were not affected.

According to media reports, Jaguar Land Rover recently experienced a cyberattack in the UK. The company confirmed that the incident was discovered in early September. As a result, the global workforce of 33,000 employees was informed that production lines had been impacted. The company announced that it has notified colleagues, suppliers, and partners, extending the current production halt until Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Jaguar Land Rover is currently evaluating potential risks and assessing impacts across various operations, though deliveries in the Chinese market have not been affected so far.

It is worth noting that as the largest automotive manufacturer in the UK, Jaguar Land Rover originally had a daily production capacity of over 1,000 vehicles. However, all three of its major factories in the UK have now ceased production. Experts estimate that this incident could result in economic losses of up to £120 million for the company.

UK cybersecurity company “Guardian” reported that a hacker group, claiming affiliation with the ransomware organization “Dispersed Spider,” has taken responsibility for the attack. This group has also been linked to cyberattacks against automotive retail companies in several countries. Investigations are still ongoing.

A Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson responded, saying, “Given that the investigation into the cyber incident is still ongoing and the recovery of global operations requires careful planning, we have decided to extend the production halt.” The company also stated that since the attack on August 31, its team has been fully focused on system repairs and restarting production.

David Bailey, an economics professor at the University of Birmingham Business School, analyzed the situation, stating: “The cars produced by these factories are of high value, and during the production halt, vehicles worth around £1.7 billion in value are unable to be completed. The preliminary profit loss is estimated at £120 million. The longer the shutdown continues, the more negative the impact will be.” He further noted that if the halt continues until November, production of around 50,000 vehicles could be affected.

The production halt has also disrupted the supply chain. Bailey believes that many small and medium-sized suppliers, as well as automotive retailers, who depend on Jaguar Land Rover, have faced issues with parts procurement and vehicle registration. The UK’s trade union has issued a warning that if the production halt continues, employees may face the risk of unemployment and has urged the government to introduce a furlough scheme for support.

This Tuesday, the UK Department for Business and Trade held talks with Jaguar Land Rover representatives to discuss strategies for recovery and restarting production. Cybersecurity agencies have also intervened to assist the company in restoring operations as quickly as possible.

Regarding the cyberattack, Jaguar Land Rover China issued a statement on its official website, saying, “Since we became aware of the cybersecurity incident, we have been working around the clock with third-party cybersecurity experts to gradually restore the operation of our global applications in a controlled and secure manner. Our retail partners are still operating normally. Based on the ongoing investigation, we can confirm that some data has been affected, and we are reporting this to the relevant regulatory authorities. Evidence collection and investigation are underway, and if any user data is found to be impacted, we will proactively contact the relevant parties as soon as possible.”
