On September 22, ORA Auto announced that its first all-electric SUV would officially be named “ORA 5.” Previously, the ORA 5 was set to be the first all-electric SUV under the ORA brand. The new vehicle has already completed its filing with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and ORA Auto has released a teaser image of the car. The vehicle will be officially unveiled on September 25.
Looking at the design of the ORA 5 in comparison to the ORA Cat’s filing images, the overall design continues ORA’s “Cat” style, featuring round front headlights, a layered design with muscular lines on the front, a front bumper with large trapezoidal air intakes, and vertical ventilation openings on both sides. From the side view, the vehicle’s charging port is located on the right front fender, and the front and rear fender designs offer a wide-body visual effect. The rear end features a design similar to the ORA Good Cat, with a roof spoiler integrated with a high-position brake light, and the rear lights are still embedded into the rear window. The tailgate bears the “GWM” logo at the center, with “ORA Cat” on the left and “Great Wall Motors” on the right. In terms of size, the new car measures 4471/1833(1844)/1641mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2720mm.
In terms of power, the ORA 5 will be equipped with a motor from Hive Drive Technology Pizhou Co., Ltd., producing a maximum power of 150kW, paired with a Hive Energy lithium iron phosphate short blade power battery.
Unlike previous model names, ORA has abandoned the familiar “Cat” naming convention. Since its establishment in 2018, ORA Auto has focused on the “more love for women” brand positioning, specifically targeting the female car market with models like the Black Cat, White Cat, Good Cat, Ballet Cat, and Lightning Cat. These models are all sedans, and the introduction of a new naming method for the SUV was expected. Additionally, the ORA 5 is the first entirely new model released by ORA Auto since 2023, signaling the start of a new strategic direction. Moreover, the use of the international name “ORA 5” clearly indicates ORA’s dual intention of upward brand positioning and international expansion.
As the first SUV, the final price of the ORA 5 will be higher than the ORA Good Cat, likely starting from 100,000 RMB. Its competitors will include the Smart #1, MINI Aceman, Firefly, and other premium compact SUVs. From a product perspective, the ORA 5’s advantages include a larger body size, as well as Great Wall Motors’ expertise in three-electric technology and safety. However, in today’s highly competitive market, the final pricing of the ORA 5 will be key to its potential sales success.
The ORA 5 is not only a new car but also a critical testbed for Great Wall Motors’ global new energy strategy. Currently, ORA’s available models include the ORA Good Cat, ORA Lightning Cat, and ORA Ballet Cat, with most of its sales coming from the ORA Good Cat. Retail data shows that from January to August 2025, the ORA brand has sold a total of 14,781 vehicles, with 14,290 units of the ORA Good Cat, and the other two models having sold only around 100 units each.
