Two types of power! Ford Smart Mustang blind pre-order

On October 1st, Ford Zongheng officially announced that the Ford Smart Mustang has officially opened for blind pre-order. The official statement mentions that users can pay a 1000 yuan deposit for the blind pre-order, and in return, they will receive a 12,000 yuan “One-touch Lift Roof Camping Option Package.” This package includes features such as a one-touch lift roof and front seat headrests that automatically fold with one touch, creating a multi-level car interior space. According to the plan, the new car will open pre-sales at this year’s Guangzhou Auto Show and is expected to be launched by the end of the year.

The Ford Smart Mustang officially debuted at this year’s Chengdu Auto Show. The new car is built on Ford’s “Fuyu” native smart new energy architecture. In terms of appearance, it continues to follow the design style of the fuel-powered version, equipped with lidar and multiple high-precision radar sensors. The powertrain offers two options: pure electric and extended-range systems.

Looking at the exterior design, both the pure electric and extended-range versions share the same design style, continuing the family design but removing the non-load-bearing body design. The front adopts a boxy design, making the car appear very rugged and retro. Specifically, the new car’s front grille integrates with the two large headlight clusters, creating a continuous visual effect. The iconic, glowing “Bronco” English logo is embedded directly into the grille and occupies the visual center of the front, making the vehicle more recognizable. The lower bumper is designed with a tow hook, enhancing the vehicle’s off-road capabilities.

In terms of driver assistance, the car is equipped with Ford’s “Fuyu” driver assistance system, with a total of 32 sensors, including one lidar, five millimeter-wave radars, twelve ultrasonic radars, and fourteen cameras, supporting both high-speed NOA (Navigation On Autopilot) and city NOA driving assistance.

From the side, the new car features a floating roof design, hidden door handles, and slightly raised unpainted wheel arches, emphasizing its off-road traits. In terms of dimensions, the extended-range version measures 5025mm in length, 1960mm in width, and 1825mm (1815/1840mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 2950mm. The pure electric version of the Ford Smart Mustang has the same length and width, with a height of 1815mm (1825mm), and the wheelbase is also 2950mm, positioning it as a new energy off-road SUV. At the rear, the car adopts a simple vertical taillight design, new-style rims, and an external spare tire design, with a large black underbody that gives it a rugged look. The tailgate opens sideways, and after lowering the small table board, it reveals a ready-to-use stove, perfectly solving the outdoor camping needs of users.

Inside, the car’s layout is relatively simple, equipped with a floating central control screen, a digital instrument cluster, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a shift-by-wire gear lever, giving it a high-tech feel. Additionally, the car offers an intelligent cockpit system that includes a one-touch “Nap Mode.”

In terms of power, the new car offers both pure electric and extended-range powertrain options. The pure electric version is equipped with dual motors, providing a total output of 130kW (front) and 202kW (rear). The extended-range version uses a 1.5T turbocharged engine paired with dual motors. The engine has a maximum power of 110kW, while the electric motors provide a maximum power of 130kW (front) and 180kW (rear). In terms of range, the pure electric version comes with a 105.4kWh battery, offering a range of 650km, while the extended-range version features a 43.7kWh battery with a pure electric range of 220km under the CLTC cycle, and a combined range of 1220km with full fuel and battery.

Considering the positioning of the Ford Smart Mustang, it is expected that the new car will compete with models such as the Equation Leopard 5, Tank 400 Hi4-T, Jeep Wrangler, and Toyota Prado after its launch. Overall, as a rugged new energy mid-size SUV, the new car has significant advantages in off-road intelligent configurations and driver assistance. However, the final pricing of the new vehicle will play a key role in its market performance after launch.
