According to InsideEVs, Mercedes-Benz has officially confirmed the discontinuation of the EQB. A spokesperson from the company stated, “The EQB’s planned lifecycle has come to an end, so it will not be sold in the U.S. and Canada markets after the 2025 model year. Mercedes-Benz is still fully committed to electrification, and the brand’s largest-ever product offensive is about to begin. As announced at the 2023 Munich Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz will also launch two SUVs based on this new architecture.”

The Mercedes-Benz EQB and EQE are both fully electric models under the Mercedes-EQ sub-brand. The EQB was globally unveiled at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, based on the fuel-powered GLB, and was officially launched at the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show. The EQB 350 4MATIC was priced at 437,800 RMB. The current EQB models available on the market, including the EQB 260 and EQB 350 4MATIC, were launched in August 2024, priced at 352,000 RMB and 428,000 RMB, respectively.
It is understood that the EQB will soon be replaced by a new model, returning to the GLB family and potentially named “GLB with EQ Technology,” which is expected to be unveiled next year. According to related reports, the electric GLB will be based on the same MMA platform used for the latest CLA model. The MMA platform is specifically designed for electric vehicles and supports hybrid models as well, offering numerous technological advantages, such as an 800V high-voltage charging system that significantly improves charging speed, allowing for 10% to 80% charge in just 22 minutes. This will greatly enhance the charging experience for users. Additionally, the new GLB will feature more efficient motors and a completely redesigned interior, further improving its competitiveness.
Mercedes plans to launch a series of new models based on the MMA platform. According to the model planning, the new vehicles based on the MMA platform will play an important role in Mercedes’ electric transformation. On September 25, Beijing Benz’s all-new pure electric model—the long-wheelbase pure electric CLA—was officially available for pre-sale. The new model offers two versions: the extended range version and the extended range intelligent version, with pre-sale prices of 259,000 RMB and 299,000 RMB, respectively. It is understood that the new CLA, based on the MMA platform, is the first model built on this platform. The pure electric range is 866 km, and it is expected to be officially launched within the year. In terms of power, the long-wheelbase pure electric CLA, built on the MMA architecture, is a four-wheel-drive model (CLA 300) with a combined output power of 260 kW and a combined torque of 515 Nm. In terms of range, the long-wheelbase version is equipped with an 89 kWh ternary lithium battery, with a CLTC range of 866 km, and supports DC fast charging up to 320 kW. Additionally, according to Ministry of Industry and Information Technology data, the long-wheelbase pure electric CLA has also been submitted for approval for a two-wheel-drive model (CLA 250), with a maximum power of 200 kW and peak torque of 335 Nm, expected to launch alongside the four-wheel-drive version, lowering the entry price for the long-wheelbase CLA.
From the perspective of the new energy vehicle market, the discontinuation of the Mercedes-Benz EQB is a reflection of industry transformation. It highlights the fierce competition in the new energy vehicle market and signals that the future automotive industry will continue moving toward more intelligent, electric, and efficient developments. In this era of transformation, both traditional automotive giants and emerging new energy vehicle companies face unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Only those companies that can continuously adapt to market changes, invest in technological research and development, and accurately understand consumer needs will be able to gain a competitive edge and succeed in this transformation, securing their place in the future.
