Global New Energy Vehicle Sales by Car Brands in August

Recently, a report titled “Top 20 Global New Energy Vehicle Sales by Car Brands in August 2025” was released by Yiche, covering the period from August 1 to August 30. According to the data compiled from domestic end sales and overseas sales, the top three global new energy vehicle brands in August were BYD, Tesla, and Geely Galaxy, with sales of 316,300 units, 146,800 units, and 106,800 units, respectively. Among the top ten brands, only Tesla and Volkswagen were foreign brands.

BYD ranked first with 316,300 units sold in August. The company includes four major brands: BYD, Tengshi, Fangchengbao, and Yangwang. Among these, BYD’s Dynasty and Ocean series are the primary contributors to its sales. However, in recent months, BYD’s market performance has been relatively average, with growth rates much lower than before, and even experiencing a year-on-year decline. Despite this, BYD remains a global leader in the new energy vehicle sector. Moving forward, BYD’s growth will mainly come from overseas markets, where it has already achieved new energy vehicle sales leadership in markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, Brazil, and Italy, while continuing to explore new markets and plans to build factories overseas.

In terms of market performance, Tesla ranked second with sales of 146,800 units in August. Tesla currently offers multiple models, including the Model 3, Model Y, Model X, Model S, and a pickup truck, with the majority of sales coming from the Model 3 and Model Y. In August, the Model Y sold 39,413 units in China, while the Model 3 sold 17,739 units. Tesla plans to launch a more affordable version of the Model Y to further stabilize its market presence.

In addition to BYD and Tesla, Geely’s Galaxy brand also sold over 100,000 units. Galaxy is Geely’s key player in the new energy vehicle market, with models such as the E5, E8, L6, L7, A7, M9, Geely Xingyuan, Yizhen L380, Xingyao 8, Xingyao 6, and Xingjian 7. From a sales perspective, six of its models surpassed the 10,000 units mark in August, making it one of the few domestic brands capable of creating multiple hot-selling models.

Leap Motor ranked fifth, with 50,900 units sold in August, making it the best-selling new force brand in China. Leap’s current models include the T03, C01, C10, C11, C16, B10, and B01, with the Leap C10 and B01 both selling over 10,000 units. Leap’s new model, the Leap D19, will be launched on October 16 and is expected to be a full-size SUV with a price range of 250,000-300,000 yuan.

The HarmonyOS Smart Travel, which includes five brands—Wenjie, Zhijie, Xiangjie, Zunjie, and Shangjie—created through collaborations between Seres, Chery, BAIC, JAC, and SAIC with Huawei, achieved sales of 43,800 units in August. Among these, the Wenjie M8 and M9 each sold over 10,000 units, with sales of 21,537 and 10,067 units, respectively. On September 23, the all-new Wenjie M7 was officially launched, offering both extended range and pure electric versions. The extended range version is priced between 279,800 and 359,800 yuan, while the pure electric version is priced between 319,800 and 379,800 yuan. Within five minutes of its launch, more than 10,000 orders were placed.

XPeng Motors ranked seventh, with sales of 37,500 units. Xiaomi Motors followed with 36,200 units, ranking eighth, with the Xiaomi SU7 accounting for 19,848 units and the Xiaomi YU7 for 16,548 units. Changan QiYuan ranked tenth, with sales of 31,600 units.
