All-New Design! Hongqi HS6 PHEV Interior Unveiled

Recently, the interior of the Hongqi HS6 PHEV made its official debut. The HS6 PHEV is a brand-new mid-to-large SUV under FAW Hongqi, built on the company’s Honghu plug-in hybrid platform. Its exterior continues Hongqi’s signature family design language, while the cabin adopts an entirely new interior styling that differs from the current Hongqi new energy lineup. The model is powered by a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system.

Interior Design
Compared with Hongqi’s existing NEV models, the HS6 PHEV introduces a dual-screen layout for the front passenger for the first time, accompanied by a compact digital instrument cluster and a head-up display (HUD). The center console uses a tiered design, with sections wrapped in leather and accented with stitching. The overall layout follows a minimalist style with no physical buttons, and there’s a small covered storage compartment on the driver’s side.
The steering wheel is a three-spoke design wrapped in two-tone leather, featuring both press-type and roller-type physical multifunction controls. Thanks to a column-mounted gear selector, the passenger-side console area houses a wireless charging pad for a single smartphone, dual cup holders, and a covered storage compartment, with additional open storage space beneath the console.

Exterior Design
On the outside, the HS6 PHEV features the iconic “Grand Waterfall” grille, a signature Hongqi design language dating back to the 1958 Hongqi CA72. However, the grille here is closed-off, with only small air inlets on the lower front bumper. Unlike other current Hongqi models that use split-headlight clusters, the HS6 PHEV switches to a single integrated headlamp design with L-shaped LED daytime running lights, chrome trim below, and air guides on both sides.
The body profile is muscular and full, with traditional-style door handles instead of pop-out handles. In terms of size, the HS6 PHEV measures 4,900 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,730 mm high, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, positioned as a five-seat mid-to-large SUV. At the rear, the vehicle drops the popular full-width taillight design seen on other Hongqi models, adopting a more understated look with a hidden dual exhaust layout.

Powertrain & Battery Options
Based on information filed with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the HS6 PHEV is equipped with a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system. Its 1.5T engine delivers up to 110 kW and works with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by Jiangsu Zonergy New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. Two battery capacities will be available: 23.9 kWh and 39.5 kWh.

The 23.9 kWh version offers a pure electric range of 123 km (CLTC).

The 39.5 kWh version comes in two range configurations — 190 km and 205 km (CLTC).

Market Positioning & Competition
Positioned between the Hongqi HS3 PHEV and Hongqi HS7 PHEV, the HS6 PHEV is expected to target the 200,000–300,000 RMB ($27,000–$41,000) price range. As a mid-to-large SUV, it will likely compete with models such as the BYD Tang L DM, GAC Trumpchi ES9 PHEV, and Lynk & Co 09 EM-P. However, whether the HS6 PHEV can become a breakout player in this segment will largely depend on its final pricing.

For context, Hongqi’s current best-selling plug-in hybrid is the Hongqi E-QM5, which sold 5,463 units in August.
