Wenjie ADS4 Upgrade Delayed! Wenjie Executive Apologizes

On October 2nd, due to the failure to push upgrade versions for some Wenjie models, the product director of the Wenjie series apologized through a post on the HarmonyOS Smart Travel App. He explained that the delay in the upgrade was mainly due to the version not passing the relevant approval, which led to some models not receiving the upgrade.

Some car owners in the comments section revealed that the delayed version was the ADS 4 system upgrade. It is understood that HUAWEI ADS 4 is Huawei’s intelligent driver assistance system, which was launched at the Shanghai Qiankun Intelligent Technology Conference on April 22 this year. The system comes in four versions: SE basic version, Pro enhanced version, Max ultra version, and Ultra flagship version, covering the market from 150,000 yuan to luxury models. The ADS Ultra flagship version is equipped with a high-speed L3 exclusive solution.

The September OTA upgrade for the ADS 4 system mainly enhanced the driving assistance experience, making lane changes smoother, following cars more stable, and passing intersections more elegantly, while reducing harsh braking by 70%. The new “Parking-to-Parking 2.0” feature supports initiating “parking-level navigation,” and integrates navigation display both inside and outside the park, eliminating the need to switch interfaces when entering or exiting the park or city. Users can initiate navigation assistance (NCA) with a single button at parking spaces, ensuring a seamless NCA experience from parking to parking. Additionally, it supports real-time environment rendering at low speeds (SR), which can sense and display available parking spots around the vehicle. Once a parking spot is selected, the parking assistance function can be activated without switching to reverse gear, allowing users to park more efficiently. The system also supports saving custom parking spaces in parks and non-marked parking spots for one-click navigation to the “custom exclusive parking spot.”

On September 18th, the product manager of the Wenjie M8 series announced on Weibo via the HarmonyOS Smart Travel App that the ADS 4.0 smart driving version for the Wenjie M8 series had officially passed regulatory approval and would begin rolling out in batches starting September 19. On September 25, the official announcement revealed that the entire Wenjie M9 series would receive the Huawei Qiankun smart driving ADS 4 upgrade. Based on these updates, the models involved in the delayed upgrade are likely to be the current Wenjie M5 and the older Wenjie M7 models.

According to the information, the Wenjie M5 is the first mass-produced model from AITO Wenjie, launched in February 2022. It is positioned as a medium-sized SUV and was initially offered in three variants with a price range of 249,800-319,800 yuan. In April of last year, the new Wenjie M5 was officially launched, offering three variants: the extended-range Max version (rear-wheel drive) priced at 249,800 yuan, the pure electric Max version (rear-wheel drive) priced at 269,800 yuan, and the extended-range Max RS version (four-wheel drive) priced at 279,800 yuan. On March 20 this year, the Wenjie M5 Ultra model was officially launched at a starting price of 229,800 yuan.

The Wenjie M7 is the second model launched by the Wenjie brand, positioned as a large SUV. It was released in July 2022 with a price range of 319,800-379,800 yuan. In September 2023, the new Wenjie M7 was launched, offering five-seat and six-seat versions with an official price range of 249,800-329,800 yuan. Data shows that last year, the Wenjie M7 sold a total of 193,300 units, while the Wenjie M5 sold 36,500 units.

The apology from the Wenjie product director was met with understanding from many car owners. Some owners commented, saying that since the situation was explained, car owners could understand. They were willing to wait, as the upgrade would only be fully rolled out after approval. Other owners suggested fixing any bugs before pushing the update.
