Toyota Officially Announces Apple Maps EV Routing Support for 2023 and Later Electric Vehicles in the U.S.
On October 29, Toyota announced (in a statement released on October 23) that, in order to enhance the user experience for its battery electric vehicles (BEVs), all 2023 and later models sold in the U.S. will now support Apple Maps’ EV Routing feature through Apple CarPlay.

The key advantage of this new feature lies in its seamless integration of charging route planning directly within the CarPlay interface. According to a blog post cited by IT Home, Toyota owners previously had to exit the CarPlay environment and use other apps or the vehicle’s built-in navigation system to plan routes that included charging stops — a process that was rather cumbersome. Now, users can complete end-to-end trip planning, including charging stops, directly within the familiar Apple Maps interface.
Apple Maps’ EV Routing feature is highly intelligent. It can access real-time vehicle data, such as battery charge level, and combine it with factors like elevation changes and traffic conditions along the route. Based on this data, it automatically recommends optimal charging stations at the most appropriate points during the journey.
More importantly, the system also provides a critical safety safeguard. If the system detects that the vehicle’s battery level is too low to reach the next scheduled charging station or destination, Apple Maps automatically activates an emergency protocol, rerouting the driver to the nearest compatible charging station to ensure safe travel continuity.
