Xiaomi YU7 to Allow Limited-Time Configuration Changes with Rescheduled Production

On July 1, Xiaomi Auto founder Lei Jun announced that the Xiaomi YU7 will open a limited-time reconfiguration window from 10:00 a.m. on July 6 to 12:00 midnight on July 7. During this period, non-“quasi-ready stock” customers with locked orders will be able to adjust their configurations. Lei encouraged customers to visit stores to experience the vehicle and review different options before making careful choices. He added that if the reconfiguration is successful, production scheduling and estimated delivery times will be reset.

The announcement drew support from many netizens. Comments on Lei Jun’s Weibo included: “Lei always puts users first—responsive and efficient,” while others noted that re-entering the production queue after reconfiguration is fair to other buyers.

This is not Xiaomi Auto’s first time offering such a policy. Following the launch of the SU7 in April 2024, Xiaomi also allowed non-founder edition customers to reconfigure their locked orders, with production and delivery times recalculated from the successful reconfiguration date. The company explained that many customers placed orders immediately after the launch event without time to fully evaluate models and configurations, and later wanted adjustments after seeing the cars in person. Traditionally, locked orders cannot be modified once factory scheduling begins, but Xiaomi has emphasized its philosophy of “making friends with users,” leading to the adoption of this exceptional policy.

Lei Jun previously stated in a livestream that while traditional automakers rarely allow changes after lock-in, Xiaomi received significant feedback from buyers who rushed to place orders but regretted their configuration choices. In March 2024, Lei announced a reconfiguration option for Ultra model customers, later expanding it at the June 26 ecosystem launch to all SU7 models pending delivery.

Industry insiders commented that the timing of the new YU7 reconfiguration policy is reasonable, as display and test-drive vehicles are now available in offline stores. Prospective owners can experience trims, compare exterior colors, and evaluate differences between the Standard, Pro, and Max versions before finalizing their decisions. However, they also noted that rescheduling production inevitably affects delivery timelines, and requiring customers to requeue ensures both fairness and efficiency in the production process.

Launched on June 26, the Xiaomi YU7 is positioned as an SUV with three trims—Standard, Pro, and Max—priced between RMB 253,500 and RMB 329,900. The model has seen overwhelming demand, with over 200,000 orders placed within three minutes of launch and more than 240,000 units locked within 18 hours. According to the Xiaomi Auto app, current estimated delivery times are 57–60 weeks for the Standard, 50–53 weeks for the Pro, and 38–41 weeks for the Max.
