New Hi4-Z Added! New Tank 400 Pre-Sale

On October 21, the new Tank 400 opened for pre-sale. As a mid-year facelift model, the new version features upgrades to both the exterior and interior, introducing a new “Dunhuang Purple” color. It offers various powertrains, including gasoline, diesel, Hi4-T, and Hi4-Z options, and has undergone a comprehensive upgrade in terms of smart technology, with the introduction of a Smart Enjoy Edition equipped with lidar and advanced driver assistance systems.

In terms of exterior design, the new Tank 400 retains its mecha-style design, with a larger front grille and two horizontal chrome strips. The headlights are polygonal, and the front bumper has been redesigned with a flatter line compared to the current model. It is equipped with high-power LED fog lights with a maximum illumination range of about 31.6 meters. The front bumper also features black decorative elements, as well as a far-infrared night vision system.

The side profile remains consistent with the current model, featuring rugged fenders with rivet designs and new blacked-out wheels. In terms of dimensions, the new vehicle measures 4964 mm in length, 1970 mm in width, and 1905 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2850 mm. At the rear, the new Tank 400 continues to offer an exterior-mounted spare tire, but the spare tire guard has been removed and replaced with a cover similar to that of the Tank 300. It also adds a small blue light for driver assistance, and the rear bumper has been redesigned to match the front bumper’s styling. The vehicle’s rear badge layout has also been changed, with “GWM TANK” and “Great Wall Motors” logos at the top, and “Tank 400” along with powertrain markings below.

Inside, the new Tank 400 retains a similar layout to the current model, but the size of the central touchscreen has been reduced from 16.2 inches to 15.6 inches, now supporting a 2.5K resolution. It comes with the third-generation Coffee OS and Coffee GPT voice interaction system, along with a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a HUD head-up display.

The new Tank 400 continues to use a three-spoke steering wheel but adopts a column shifter for gear changes. The lower part of the center console has been redesigned to include two ventilated wireless charging panels, as well as more metallic off-road control buttons, which integrate vehicle control, seat control, and powertrain switching. The front center armrest now includes a cooling and heating box. The panoramic sunroof has been removed but replaced with a 15.6-inch 2.5K entertainment screen (likely standard on the Smart Enjoy Edition). Additionally, the rear air conditioning vent screen has been optimized.

Similar to the newly launched Tank 500, the new Tank 400 is expected to offer a Smart Enjoy Edition for both the Hi4-T and Hi4-Z versions, which will be equipped with the third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra driver assistance system. The Smart Enjoy Edition will also feature a Hesai ATX lidar mounted on the roof and side-view cameras, likely enabling features like city NOA and highway NOA. Other powertrain versions will likely offer basic driver assistance capabilities.

Powertrain options for the new Tank 400 include gasoline, diesel, Hi4-T, and the newly introduced Hi4-Z. The Hi4-T and Hi4-Z are two distinct platforms, with Hi4-T focused on extreme off-roading, featuring a non-disconnecting, body-on-frame, mechanical 4WD system, while Hi4-Z is part of Great Wall’s more refined off-road categorization, aimed at broader off-road capabilities.

The new Tank 400 Hi4-T continues to use a plug-in hybrid system with a 2.0T engine and a single electric motor. The 2.0T engine produces a maximum power of 185 kW, while the electric motor, which remains the same as the current model, produces 120 kW. It also uses a 37.1 kWh ternary lithium battery, providing a pure electric range of 105 km under the CLTC cycle.

The new Tank 400 Hi4-Z uses the same powertrain as the Tank 500 Hi4-Z, consisting of a 2.0T engine and dual electric motors (P2 and P4), coupled with a 3-speed DHT gearbox and a continuously variable transmission. The engine produces a maximum power of 185 kW, with a peak torque of 380 Nm. The P2 and P4 motors produce maximum powers of 215 kW and 240 kW, respectively. It is paired with a 59.05 kWh battery, offering a pure electric range of 200 km under the CLTC cycle. Both plug-in hybrid versions support an external power supply function with a maximum output of 6 kW.

The Tank 400 is positioned as a mid-to-large SUV, with competitors in a similar price range including the Fang Cheng Bao Titanium 7, Ford Mustang Mach-E (not yet released), and the Beijing BJ60. According to data, in September, the Tank 400’s new energy sales reached 2,805 units, ranking fourth among the Tank brand models. The highest sales were recorded by the Tank 500 new energy version, with 5,379 units sold.
