Stellantis Announces Halt in Development of All-Electric Ram 1500 REV Pickup

On September 14, it was reported that Stellantis, the parent company of Ram, announced on Friday that it would no longer develop a fully electric full-size pickup truck. According to a statement on the company’s website, the primary reason for this decision is the weak demand for full-size electric pickups.

The statement read: “As demand for full-size electric pickups in North America slows, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will cease development of the full-size all-electric pickup. Meanwhile, Ram is rebranding its extended-range electric pickup as the Ram 1500 REV (formerly known as Ramcharger). This vehicle will set a new benchmark in the half-ton segment, offering excellent range, towing capacity, and payload performance.”

According to IT Home, the Ram 1500 all-electric pickup was part of Stellantis’s push for electric vehicles in the U.S. market, with the company planning to launch more than 25 new all-electric vehicles by the end of the decade. After an impressive debut at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and subsequent displays in the following months, Stellantis became hesitant about its electric truck plans. The company initially announced that production would start in 2024, but this date was quickly pushed to 2025. By the end of 2024, Stellantis delayed its plans for the pickup again, with the release now set for 2026.

A spokesperson for Stellantis confirmed that the automaker still plans to begin production of the extended-range Ram 1500 in 2026.
