Beijing Hyundai EO Yio Starting at USD 11,000

On October 29, Beijing Hyundai officially announced the launch of its first fully electric SUV — the EO Yio.
The new model is available in three variants, with prices ranging from 119,800 to 149,800 RMB (approximately USD 11,000 to USD 14,000). The EO Yio is built on Hyundai’s global electric vehicle platform, the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), and is positioned as a compact all-electric SUV. It offers a CLTC range of up to 722 km, with a peak power output of 160 kW.

Exterior Design
The Beijing Hyundai EO Yio has a highly recognizable exterior design. The headlights are slim and elongated, with four rectangular LED light sources embedded inside. When illuminated, these resemble the look of a Bugatti, while below them is a continuous LED daytime running light strip. The lower bumper features a three-section design, with an active front grille in the center and ventilation openings on both sides. The vehicle offers a range of seven exterior colors, including Twilight Purple, Pearl White, Pearl Black, Dawn White, Cyber Silver, Turquoise Blue, and Camouflage Gray.

On the side, the EO Yio features a blackened A-pillar, creating a floating roof effect. The roofline smoothly transitions downward from the B-pillar, paired with upward-curved window trims. The car also has hidden door handles and hidden D-pillars, giving the vehicle a more sporty profile. A notable design feature is the contrasting color strip on the rear side window, which connects to the rear spoiler at the end of the roof, creating a wraparound effect. The dimensions of the EO Yio are 4,615 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,676 mm (or 1,700 mm with roof rails) in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, positioning it as a compact electric SUV. At the rear, the vehicle features a continuous light strip that complements the front design, with a sporty lower bumper. The Hyundai logo is embedded in the rear window, and there is also an English label below the taillights. The rear bumper uses a multi-layered structure in a color contrasting with the body, giving the car a more dynamic, layered appearance.

Interior Design
Inside, the EO Yio adopts a step-style center console design, with a 27-inch 4K dual-screen layout formed by the central infotainment screen and the co-driver entertainment screen, powered by the Qualcomm 8295P chip. The vehicle features a shift-by-wire system and offers plenty of storage space in the central island, including wireless phone charging. The seats are upholstered in synthetic suede, with heated and ventilated front seats, while the driver’s seat includes active side bolsters. The rear seats can be adjusted up to 28° and support a 60/40 split fold. The trunk capacity is 506 L, which can be expanded to 1,540 L when the rear seats are folded down.

Powertrain
The EO Yio offers both single-motor and dual-motor variants. The single-motor version has a maximum power of 160 kW, while the dual-motor version has a total output of 233 kW. The vehicle comes with two battery options: 64.3 kWh and 88.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The CLTC range for the different powertrains is 518 km, 540 km, 590 km, 692 km, and 722 km, respectively. The battery system is provided by Xiangyang Fudi Battery Co., Ltd..

Market Context
In recent years, Beijing Hyundai has not performed well in China, facing intense competition from new domestic brands, which has led to declining sales. The company even missed the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. Meanwhile, competition from joint-venture brands has been growing, with more and more offering electric vehicles that cater to the demands of Chinese consumers. It remains to be seen whether the new EO Yio can turn the tide for Beijing Hyundai in the EV market.

As a compact all-electric SUV, the Beijing Hyundai EO Yio will compete with models like the Volkswagen ID.4 X/ID.4 CROZZ, Toyota BZ3X, as well as Chinese EVs like the Deep Blue S05, Galaxy E5, and BYD Song PLUS EV. Without a competitive price point, the EO Yio may struggle to compete with these established models. The Volkswagen ID.4 X/ID.4 CROZZ currently sells around 1,000 units per month, and Hyundai faces a major brand recognition disadvantage. The Deep Blue S05, Galaxy E5, and Song PLUS EV have performed well in this segment, which means the EO Yio will face significant market pressure.
