At the 2025 Munich Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the all-new, all-electric GLC SUV, marking its global debut. As an entirely new model, it adopts a fresh design language that redefines Mercedes-Benz’s iconic styling. Inside, it features a massive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, the largest continuous display ever installed in a Mercedes vehicle, and for the first time incorporates air suspension technology from the S-Class. Most notably, a long-wheelbase version of the GLC EV will enter local production in China next year, with a six-seat (2+2+2) configuration as its first launch edition.

Exterior
The design draws inspiration from the classic 300 SEL 6.3, with a bold, illuminated polygonal grille containing 942 individual pixels that can light up to form animated sequences when the car is unlocked or charging. Chrome accents outline the grille, with a dual horizontal bar layout inside, delivering a strong blend of presence and futuristic flair. Both the front and rear light clusters integrate the Mercedes three-pointed star motif, enhancing recognition.
In profile, the GLC EV has a smooth, coupe-like silhouette with hidden door handles, a sloping roofline, and large wheels, complemented by chrome trim on the window surrounds and door handles for an upscale feel. Measuring 2972 mm in wheelbase—84 mm longer than the standard ICE-powered GLC SUV—the new model promises more generous rear-seat and cargo space. At the rear, full-width taillights with twin-ring elements highlight its sportiness, while a gloss-black bumper with chrome details emphasizes luxury.
Interior
The cabin showcases Mercedes’ latest design language, with premium leather finishes, ambient lighting, and high-end detailing. The centerpiece is the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, featuring matrix backlighting with over 1,000 independently controlled LEDs for intelligent dimming, offering cinema-like visuals. It supports 11 customizable themes, blending technology and artistry. Other highlights include a three-spoke steering wheel, column-mounted shifter, mechanical-style door handles, and the 4th-generation MBUX system. The SUV also adds a smart panoramic roof with nine lighting zones and a starry-sky effect, plus integrated rear physical buttons for common functions. Seats are designed in a sporty integrated style with a panoramic glass roof option.
Powertrain
Built on the MB.EA platform, the GLC EV uses the eATS 2.0 electric drive system. Standard versions include a single-motor RWD (272 hp) and dual-motor AWD (489 hp) configuration, while the AMG high-performance variant delivers 608 hp. The model offers up to 735 km of pure-electric range (CLTC).
Production and Localization
The GLC EV will be produced in Bremen, Germany, and Beijing, China, with possible production in Tuscaloosa, USA. The long-wheelbase model tailored for China will debut next year, featuring luxury second-row captain’s chairs in a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, as well as China-specific navigation-assist features and a localized digital ecosystem.
Market Positioning
The all-electric Mercedes-Benz GLC is expected to compete directly with the next-generation BMW iX3, which will also enter Chinese local production next year. Both models embody their brands’ latest EV strategies, each based on advanced new electronic/electrical architectures.
Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius expressed strong confidence in the GLC EV’s prospects: “With the arrival of the all-new electric GLC SUV, we are launching the most powerful product and technology offensive in Mercedes-Benz history. This is not just a new model—it marks a new chapter for our global best-selling model line in the era of electrification. Combining new design, forward-looking technology, the MB.OS architecture, and outstanding performance, the all-electric GLC SUV perfectly integrates comfort, handling, efficiency, and intelligence.”
Broader Launches at Munich
Alongside the GLC EV, Mercedes-Benz also showcased the new GLA Shooting Brake, new GLA plug-in hybrid, AMG GT XX concept, and the VLE prototype. According to the company, Mercedes plans to launch more than 40 new models by 2027.
