On October 17, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued the latest recall announcement. According to the notice, Zhejiang Geely Automobile Co., Ltd. has decided to recall a total of 46,108 units of the 2019 Geely Binrui 1.0T-6DCT and Binrui 1.0T BJ6 vehicles produced between December 17, 2018, and March 31, 2020, starting immediately.

The Binrui is a compact sporty sedan under Geely Auto, currently priced between 89,800 and 109,800 yuan, competing mainly with models such as the Changan Eado and the MG5. Looking back at the Binrui’s development, the standard version of the model made its debut in August 2018 and officially went on sale the following month, priced between 79,800 and 110,800 yuan. Since then, Geely has successively launched several variants under the Binrui COOL series, including the Wind Edition, Electric Edition, Thunder Edition, as well as the Champion Edition and Dragon Edition. In May 2022, the Binrui COOL was introduced with a starting price of 94,800 yuan; in August 2023, the Champion Edition was added at 89,800 yuan; and in March 2024, the Dragon Edition was launched, priced at 94,800 yuan.
According to retail data, Binrui’s total sales reached 32,683 units in 2023 and 26,529 units in 2024. For the first nine months of this year, cumulative sales stood at 9,685 units.
According to the announcement, this recall was initiated after the State Administration for Market Regulation launched a defect investigation. The affected vehicles are certain 2019 Binrui 1.0T-6DCT and Binrui 1.0T BJ6 models produced between December 17, 2018, and March 31, 2020, involving a total of 46,108 units.
The reason for the recall is that the engine oil filler cap and the oil model label in the user manual are not clearly marked, which may cause users to use engine oil that is incompatible with the engine. In extreme cases, this could result in engine damage, posing safety risks and leading to unreasonable emissions. To address this issue, Zhejiang Geely Automobile Co., Ltd. will replace the oil filler cap with one that clearly specifies the correct oil model, update the electronic version of the user manual, and conduct a technical inspection of the engine. If any damage is found, the company will repair it free of charge to eliminate potential safety hazards.
