Stall! BMW and Mercedes-Benz announced the recall of some vehicles in China.

March 29, Mercedes-Benz (China) Motor Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the Requirements of the Regulations on the Management of Recalled Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Management of Recalled Defective Automobile Products.

  1. Mercedes-Benz (China) Motor Sales Co., Ltd. will recall some imported GLE SUV and GLS SUV vehicles with production dates from July 5, 2018 to November 2, 2023, totaling 60,470 vehicles from March 29, 2024.

The reason for the recall is that due to the software development deviation of the transmission control unit of some vehicles in the scope of this recall, under specific conditions where the driver lightly steps on the brake pedal and the automatic transmission shifts from 7th gear to 6th gear, it may cause the vehicle to stall during driving, which poses a safety hazard. To address these defects, Mercedes-Benz (China) Motor Sales Co., Ltd. will upgrade the software of the transmission control unit for free for the vehicles within the recall scope through Mercedes-Benz authorized dealers to eliminate safety hazards.

  1. Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will recall some C-class, E-class, and GLK vehicles with production dates from December 2, 2010 to October 31, 2014, totaling 204,255 vehicles from August 9, 2024.

The reason for the recall is that some of the 12V batteries assembled at the factory of the vehicles in the scope of this recall may leak electrolyte from the pole columns after long-term use. In extreme cases, it can cause damage to the battery sensor, and condensed water in the air can penetrate the battery sensor, causing corrosion or even short circuits, posing a risk of fire. To address these defects, Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will replace the batteries assembled at the factory that are still in use on the current vehicle for free through Mercedes-Benz authorized dealers. At the same time, it will inspect the battery wiring harness and battery sensors of the vehicle. If there are signs of corrosion, they will be replaced to eliminate safety hazards.

  1. Mercedes-Benz (China) Motor Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will recall some imported C-class, S-class, EQE, SL, and domestic C-class, and GLC SUV vehicles with production dates from February 6, 2023 to October 13, 2023, totaling 94,574 vehicles from April 17, 2024.

The recall is due to the fact that some of the 80A fuses in the vehicles within the scope of this recall may have deviations in the welding process, which may cause the fuse connection to be interrupted or the required current for interruption to be too high, resulting in failures in the systems associated with it. The vehicle may lose power, and the restraint system, instrument display, etc. may be affected, posing a safety hazard. In addition, the possibility of a fire cannot be ruled out. In response to the above defects, Mercedes-Benz (China) Motor Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. will replace the affected fuse boxes for the vehicles within the recall scope through Mercedes-Benz authorized dealers free of charge to eliminate safety hazards.

Judging from the number of Mercedes-Benz recalls, a total of 359,299 vehicles have been recalled this time, and the number of recalls is quite large. On the same day, BMW in the BBA camp also initiated a recall.

BMW Brilliance Automotive Co., Ltd. and BMW (China) Automotive Trading Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the Requirements of the Regulations on the Management of Recalled Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Management of Recalled Defective Automobile Products.

The reason for the recall is that due to production and assembly reasons, the tailgate cover and the tailgate fixing bracket of some vehicles in the scope of this recall may separate at one or more bonding points. In extreme cases, the tailgate cover may separate from the vehicle, posing a danger to other road users and presenting a safety hazard. In response to the above defects, BMW (China) Automotive Trading Co., Ltd. will check the tailgate covers of the vehicles within the recall scope for free. If they do not meet the requirements, they will be replaced to eliminate safety hazards.

The reason for the recall is that due to manufacturing reasons, the electrical signal of the motor position sensor of the integrated brake booster device (DSCi) in the vehicles within the scope of this recall may be interfered, which may result in DSCi being unable to provide auxiliary braking, affecting the functions of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and the dynamic stability control system (DSC), posing a safety hazard. In response to the above defects, BMW Brilliance Automotive Co., Ltd. and BMW (China) Automotive Trading Co., Ltd. will replace the integrated brake booster device for free for the vehicles within the recall scope to eliminate safety hazards.
