24K Gold Badge! The Yangwang U8L is priced from 176,000 USD

On September 12, Yangwang Auto officially launched its large SUV, the Yangwang U8L, with a starting price of 1.28 million RMB (~$176,000 USD). The U8L is based on the existing Yangwang U8, but with its wheelbase extended by 200 mm, a more upscale color palette, and a six-seat layout. A 25K gold-plated emblem is available as an option. For comparison, the current Yangwang U8 is priced at 1.098 million RMB (~$151,000 USD).

Exterior
The U8L largely retains the styling of the U8, featuring a front design inspired by the traditional Chinese “Ding” vessel, with dot-matrix LED lighting and futuristic headlights. At the center sits the Yangwang logo, derived from the oracle bone script for the word “electric,” which glows when illuminated. Notably, the front and rear badges are crafted from 24K solid gold, enhancing the vehicle’s prestige.

The SUV offers five body colors: two exclusive black-and-gold schemes (Obsidian Black with Solar Gold, Obsidian Black with Sunspot Gold), plus Obsidian Black, Fluorite White, and Dragonstone Green.

At the rear, the U8L differs from the U8 by removing the externally mounted spare tire and repositioning the license plate to the center of the tailgate. A split-opening electric tailgate is standard, allowing independent top and bottom operation.

In terms of size, the U8L measures 5400/2049/1921 mm, with a wheelbase of 3250 mm. Compared to the U8 (without its spare tire), the length is increased by 372 mm, with 172 mm added to the rear overhang and 200 mm to the wheelbase.

Interior
Inside, the U8L adopts a symmetrical design, available in black-brown with walnut trim or purple-gray with teak trim. Features include wool floor mats, suede headliner, and other luxury details. The dashboard combines a 12.8-inch OLED curved screen with a 23.6-inch instrument panel and passenger display, plus an AR-HUD. A capacitive four-spoke steering wheel and column-mounted shifter are fitted, alongside physical buttons and wireless phone charging in the center console.

The vehicle offers a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, with Nappa leather seats. The front seats include power leg rests, while the second-row “zero-gravity” seats feature armrest screens, USB ports, wireless charging, power leg rests, one-touch recline, and 18-point massage. The third-row seats even include heated central armrests.

Powertrain
The U8L uses the same system as the U8: a range-extended hybrid with a 2.0T engine + generator, combined with four independent electric motors. Total system output is 880 kW with 1280 Nm torque. The SUV features double-wishbone suspension front and rear, with differential locks on both axles. It also carries Yangwang’s signature Easy Four-Wheel Control and YunNian-P suspension, enabling functions like emergency floating and run-flat driving.

Market Position
Yangwang is BYD Group’s most premium EV brand, targeting the million-RMB luxury segment. Since launch, it has introduced the U9, U8, and U7. The U7 debuted on March 27 with two versions priced at 628,000 RMB (~$86,400 USD) and 708,000 RMB (~$97,400 USD).

Given its high pricing, Yangwang contributes relatively little to BYD’s sales volume. From January to August 2025, the U8 sold 887 units, the U7 745 units, and the U9 only 86 units.
