The new Teramont X has just been launched, and another mid-to-large SUV, the Talagon, is not far behind.

In the latest issue of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s declaration catalog, Automotive Industry Focus obtained the new car declaration information of FAW-Volkswagen’s new Talagon. As a mid-term facelift model, the new car also adopts an all-new design, offering both regular and R-Line versions, and is equipped with the new fifth-generation EA888 2.0T engine with optional high and low power tunes. For reference, the current market guide price range of the Talagon on sale is 242,900-299,900 yuan.
In terms of appearance, the front of the new Talagon has undergone significant changes. Like the new Teramont X, the front part is more elongated, closer to the style of new energy vehicles. The front face designs of the regular and R-Line versions of the new Talagon are basically the same, with the main differences concentrated in the front bumper. The R-Line version features a black grid structure and adds R logos in detailed parts. In addition, the new Talagon is designed with slender front light groups, and the shapes of both sides of the front bumper have been modified accordingly.
At the rear, the overall changes of the new Talagon are minor. It continues to use the through-style taillight group, but the internal structure of the light group adopts a new design. Moreover, the new car is equipped with a newly styled rear bumper and cancels the original four-outlet exhaust trim, adopting a hidden exhaust layout. It is worth noting that the rear logos of the new Talagon have been changed to “450TSI” and “380TSI”, which means the car will be equipped with the fifth-generation EA888 2.0T engine with optional high and low power configurations. In terms of dimensions, the new car has a length, width and height of 5007mm/2015mm/1763 (1778) mm, with a wheelbase of 2980mm. Compared with the current model, the wheelbase remains unchanged, but the body length has increased by more than 50mm.
In terms of power, the new Talagon is equipped with the new fifth-generation EA888 2.0T engine with optional high/low power tunes. The high-power version has a maximum power of 200kW, and the low-power version has a maximum power of 157kW. The power parameters are consistent with those of the new Teramont X, corresponding to the rear logos “450TSI” and “380TSI” respectively.
The Talagon is a mid-to-large SUV under FAW-Volkswagen, launched in November 2022. Built on the MQB platform, it is positioned between the Tayron and the Teramont X. In terms of power, it is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine. The low-power version (330TSI) has a maximum power of 137kW and a peak torque of 320N·m; the high-power version (380TSI) has a maximum power of 162kW and a peak torque of 350N·m. In terms of transmission, all models are matched with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox, and both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions are available.
In terms of size, the Talagon can be regarded as the sister model of SAIC Volkswagen’s Teramont. It fills the market gap between the Teramont X and the Tayron. Although positioned as a mid-to-large SUV, its main competitors are joint-venture mid-size SUVs, including the Toyota Highlander, Buick Envision, and Ford Edge, aiming to achieve a dimensionality reduction strike. Data shows that from January to July 2025, the sales volume of the Talagon was 16,038 units, while the Toyota Highlander was 41,902 units and the Envision Plus was 71,762 units.
