First Car of the New Central SOE! Changan Qiyuan A06 Unveiled

On September 5, the Changan Qiyuan A06 made its official debut. Positioned as a mid-size sedan, the A06 is built on Changan’s SDA global pure EV platform and will be available in both extended-range and pure electric versions. It is also the first new vehicle launched under the newly formed central SOE framework and is scheduled to hit the market in the fourth quarter.

Exterior Design
At the front, the Qiyuan A06 adopts a popular “star-ring” through-type headlight design, split into segments on both sides, paired with an illuminated brand logo for strong recognition. The hood features sharp raised creases, adding to the visual depth. Both the pure EV (A06E) and range-extended (A06R) versions share nearly identical exterior styling.

From the side, the A06 features a dual waistline design, frameless doors, conventional door handles, and frameless mirrors. At the rear, it uses through-type taillights with double-line accents on both sides, again complemented by an illuminated central logo that echoes the front. A subtle ducktail spoiler and large twin five-spoke wheels give it a sporty touch. The A06 measures 4,885 × 1,916 × 1,496 mm, with a 2,922 mm wheelbase.

Interior Features
Unveiled for the first time at the launch event, the interior offers two-tone color schemes: purple/white and brown/white, catering to different tastes. The design follows a minimalist style, with very few physical buttons. A compact digital instrument cluster is paired with a large central touchscreen. Physical buttons and a rotary knob remain under the screen for easy access. The A06 also comes with a multifunction three-spoke steering wheel, wireless charging for smartphones, ambient lighting, and other high-tech features.

Powertrain and Performance
The A06 will be available in pure electric and range-extended versions:

Pure EV version: Offers both high- and low-power configurations (210 kW and 120 kW). Battery pack options include 42.12 kWh, 51.48 kWh, and 63.18 kWh LFP batteries, with CLTC ranges of 420 km, 510 km, and 630 km.

Range-extended version: Powered by a 1.5L engine acting as a generator (72 kW), paired with a 120 kW electric motor. Equipped with a 28.39 kWh LFP battery, it provides an all-electric range of 180 km (test cycle not specified).

Chassis: Uses a front double-wishbone + rear five-link independent suspension system for improved handling.

Market and Positioning
Changan Qiyuan is the automaker’s fourth product line after Changan, Oshan, and UNI, and the group’s only dedicated new energy series. Current Qiyuan models include the A07, Q07, Q05, A05, A06, E07, and the Changan Lumin. However, the lineup has yet to produce a breakout hit. From January to July 2025, the Lumin microcar led sales with 86,566 units, followed by the A07 at 33,318 units (about 5,000 monthly).

With its mid-size sedan positioning, the A06 will compete against models like the BYD Qin L and Arcfox Alpha S5. Thanks to its 4,885 mm length and 2,922 mm wheelbase, it may also challenge larger sedans such as the BYD Han and Chery Fengyun A9L. Final specs and pricing remain to be confirmed.
