On August 19th, the Tesla Model Y L was officially launched, with an official guide price of 339,000 yuan. It is understood that the Tesla Model Y L is a three-row, six-seat model. Its size has been extended compared with the current five-seat Model Y, and the extension is not a simple one. Instead, it has comprehensively improved comfort in response to the needs of the Chinese market. The new car is equipped with an 82kWh LG ternary lithium battery pack, and its CLTC cruising range is 751 kilometers.
The layout of the lamp groups and the shape of the front and rear bumpers of the Model Y L are consistent with those of the current Model Y, but the overall rear half of the car body has undergone structural adjustments. The front of the Model Y L features a closed front face and split headlights, continuing the combination of through-type daytime running lights and split headlights. There are air vents under the lamp groups, and the front bumper is also equipped with trapezoidal air vents. At the same time, the Tesla Model Y L adopts a new Starlight Gold paint finish, and it still offers optional paint colors such as Starry Gray, Pearl White (multi-coat), Glacier Blue, Star Diamond Black, and Flame Red.
In terms of dimensions, the Tesla Model Y L has a length, width, and height of 4976/1920/1668mm, and a wheelbase of 3040mm. Its positioning has been upgraded from a five-seat mid-size SUV to a six-seat mid-to-large SUV, adopting a 2+2+2 layout. Compared with the currently sold models, the Tesla Model Y L is 179mm longer, 44mm higher, and has a 150mm longer wheelbase. Therefore, there are differences in the side design details compared with the five-seat model. For example, the size of the rear triangular window and rear fender has been increased, the roof’s sloping line is smoother, the rear window visibility has become better, and at the same time, the head and leg space for the third-row passengers of the vehicle is guaranteed as much as possible.
In terms of the interior, the Model Y L still continues the design of the Model Y, maintaining a minimalist style, and the interior offers two color schemes: dark and light gray. Compared with the current Model Y, the Model Y L has an upgraded central control screen, with the size increased from the original 15.4 inches to 16 inches, and the in-vehicle system still uses an AMD Ryzen processor. At the same time, the front wireless charging panel has also been upgraded, supporting a maximum of 50W+30W wireless fast charging at the same time, and is equipped with air-cooled heat dissipation.
The Tesla Model Y L adopts a 2+2+2 six-seat layout. Both the front and second rows are integrated sports seats. The front seats have added adjustable headrests and leg rests; the inner side of the second-row seats is equipped with electrically retractable armrests that can be fully stored, and the backrest can be reclined up to 125 degrees; the backrest angle of the third-row seats can be electrically adjusted, and the second and third rows of seats also have a linked adjustment function. The official stated that the Tesla Model Y L has laterally expanded the rear space of the vehicle by 20mm, thereby increasing the space width of the third row.
In terms of trunk storage space, when the car is fully occupied, the trunk can hold 2 24-inch and 1 20-inch suitcases. If the third-row seats are folded down, it can hold 4 28-inch and 2 20-inch suitcases, and can even hold a bicycle. The maximum storage space of the trunk can reach 2539L. There is also storage space under the trunk cover, which allows the trunk to hold taller items.
In terms of power, the Model Y L is equipped with a larger battery pack, increased from 78.4kWh to 82kWh, with a cruising range of 751km, which is basically the same as that of the Long Range All-Wheel Drive version (750km). The new car still uses a front AC induction asynchronous motor and a rear permanent magnet synchronous motor. The front motor power is 142kW, the rear motor power is 198kW, and the total power is 340kW (the maximum power of Model Y is 331kW). In terms of the chassis, the new car still uses a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension.
The Model Y is a medium-sized pure electric SUV under Tesla, with a price of 263,500-313,500 yuan, and it is the best-selling SUV in China. Data shows that the cumulative sales of Model Y from January to July 2025 were 202,257 units. The Model Y L can be regarded as a supplement to the Model Y. It adopts a 2+2+2 six-seat layout and is positioned as a mid-to-large SUV. It is not just an extension in size; the screen size and resolution of the new car’s in-vehicle system have been improved, and the number of speakers in the audio system is larger. In terms of competitors, the first competitor of the Model Y L is the Li Auto i8. Both models are six-seat pure electric SUVs, and both are priced at 339,000 yuan.
