On September 4, Tesla began using unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) in Europe, at least within the Berlin Gigafactory campus.
A video released by Tesla’s AI team shows that the Model Y vehicles produced at the Berlin Gigafactory can now drive autonomously from the end of the production line to a designated parking area. In the video, the Model Y is shown automatically parking in a charging station and directly driving toward the factory’s outbound zone.
André Thierig, the head of the Berlin Gigafactory, stated, “Every Tesla we produce has autonomous driving capabilities. We’ve now fully enabled this feature in the vehicle’s outbound process—from the light tunnel detection stage all the way to the vehicle’s arrival at the outbound zone! The entire process is quite impressive.” He also mentioned, “I can’t wait to see this feature roll out on European roads beyond the factory.”
Tesla’s FSD rollout in Europe has been slow. While “supervised FSD” has been available to consumers in the United States and has made limited progress in China, it has only undergone testing in Europe. This has tested the patience of many Tesla owners, especially those who purchased the FSD feature several years ago.
