BMW Recall
Because the starter generator’s power connector may not have been manufactured to specifications, the positive terminal connection between the starter generator and the 48V wiring harness may loosen, leading to abnormal resistance. In extreme cases, this could cause the vehicle to stall while driving or result in an engine compartment fire, posing a safety hazard. Starting immediately, BMW will recall:
1 imported 5 Series car produced on November 26, 2024.
379 domestically produced X5 cars manufactured between July 20 and December 19, 2024.
1,012 domestically produced 5 Series cars manufactured between July 18, 2024, and January 6, 2025.
BMW will inspect the starter generator and replace it if necessary, as well as check and, if required, repair or replace the related cables free of charge. This recall is an expansion of the recall activity announced on May 9, 2025, concerning imported and domestic BMW vehicles.
In addition, due to issues with the insulation fault monitoring mechanism, the high-voltage system may mistakenly shut down under certain conditions, causing the electric drive unit to lose power and increasing the risk of collision. BMW will recall:
